A huge thank you to Andy and Mrs Browne for a wonderful 2 days. Andy is great teacher, tons of patience and amazing woodturning skills, a true craftsman. As for the chef (Mrs Browne), wow....great home cooked food to a professional standard, I will definitely be back as I would like to have a day just focusing just on scoops, open and closed, and will be getting in touch soon to arrange a date......or 2!
5 Star Review
We had a great day with Andy and each came away with a lovely ash bowl that we are really pleased with. Andy is very knowledgeable and patient, guiding us along each step and helping us correct mishaps. He has fired our enthusiasm and we are now keen to do more. The lunch was delicious, catering for our dietary requirements. We would highly recommend this day.
This review follows a couple of days reflection having spent a day with Andy in his workshop learning the basics of bowl turning. Andy has a very relaxed and engaging approach to teaching and pitched his tuition at a level I could absorb. His approach introduced the workshop, preparing tools, safety equipment and getting started. A practical demo got me on to the lathe in short order and with a bit of leading the feel of tools helped me to create my first bowl. Some great tips about using oil to aid finishing was a revelation and with his expert help provided me a well finished bowl I was very pleased with.
I was keen to get a taste of what I could produce with practice and that was exactly where I left off. I have wish to return to do some spindle turning when I have some bowl turning practice under my belt and have acquired some sharpening technique.
One great tip was, don't go buying tools and gadgets before you have had a taster with Andy; his advice has saved my wallet from myself and helped me from buying twice by investing right the first time. Thanks Andy for your instruction, guidance and a thoroughly enjoyable day; I shall return for more.
Not having done any woodturning before, yesterday was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
Andy has a very relaxed approach to the subject, but with a fountain of knowledge to call on.
Lovely little workshop, but absolutely jammed packed with equipment........... equipment to die for!!
The course fee included a very tasty lunch, so all in all a thoroughly enjoyable and instructive day, money well spent.
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the day course. We took away two beautiful bowls and a fabulous experience. Andy is a great tutor, providing all the necessary assistance.
Lunch was delicious and you really cannot complain about the view!
A great experience to recommend. Andy was a great teacher, he adapted to our needs and skill and made the course a very enjoyable one. He was extremely helpful from booking to the end of the session. We have 2 amazing bowls to remind us of a very nice day. Thanks Andy!
A great Day! Had a brilliant day with Andy. After woodturning for 2 years, it was great to spend a day with an expert and sort out all the things I was doing wrong. The day has inspired me to keep practicing and improving and shown me how I can get better. A really worth-while day. Thank you.
My husband and I had an amazing day learning from Andy. We absolutely love our bowls and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Andy's wife makes an amazing cottage pie for lunch, we were so spoilt! I would highly recommend this course to everyone! Thank you Andy!
Had a great day with Andy. Have been turning for a short while and needed to finesse my skills. Andy pitched the course at exactly the right level and I learnt straight from the off.
Overall, a cracking day and will be booking another day in 6 months or so to more on the the next level.
Also, must mention Mrs Andy for a fantastic cottage pie at lunch time!
Andy is a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient instructor. As a complete beginner I really enjoyed the interesting and informative day, courtesy of a birthday gift from my wife. With plenty of guidance on the technique and good habits required for wood turning I was delighted that I was able to create a beautiful bowl from what in the morning started out as a lump of wood. I would highly recommend this course, particularly for those like myself who have spent too much time in the office and not enough time creating something with their hands. The setting was lovely and the facilities spot on. Highly recommended. I plan to come again and then perhaps kit out the garage with my own lathe!
My husband and I had a fabulous time learning from Andy! We made two great bowls, lunch was delicious and their place was beautiful, Andy was very patient and gave us loads of helpful pointers etc! Definitely wont be the last time we are going to work on a lathe!
Andy Browne Woodturning:
Hi Anne - it was a delight to have you both for a lesson! Good 'off topic' conversation kept the lesson light and fun - look forward to seeing you both in the future!
I have always wanted to try my hand at wood turning but have never had the opportunity on the small Caribbean island of St Vincent where I live, so was delighted when my wife offered to give me a two day beginners course with Andy Browne, at his well equipped workshop in Sandleheath, while we were on a recent trip to the UK. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for me. Andy is an excellent tutor, very patient, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable using tools and equipment which were all new to me. I came away with a good basic foundation in wood turning which I now intend to pursue as a hobby.
I can certainly recommend Andy for his expertise and teaching ability in wood turning.
Thank you Andy for two interesting and informative days in your workshop.
An excellent day course with Andy.
My mate Brian invited my along to the course, I didn't know what to expect, but in any case it was a good opportunity to catch up with Brian.
I was very impressed with the course, lots of time to try out wood turning and making a bowl to take home.
The workshop was well equipped and very clean, at least to start with (lots of wood shavings at the end!).
Andy was an excellent teacher demonstrating the use of turning tools and showing other techniques.
I was very proud of the finished bowl.
Thanks to Andy and of course Brian
My one day course was a 70th birthday present from my family and was fantastic. I have been turning on a small scale for quite a while now but was finding some skills elusive to achieve. Not any more!
Andy was patient, easy to understand, extremely knowledgeable and a thoroughly nice person. His wife Martine made me feel at home from the start and furnished a super shepherds pie for lunch, eaten on the decked terrace overlooking meadows and trees - absolutely delightful!
I went home knackered but boy was the day worth it. I managed to turn a very acceptable bowl [ 85% of it anyway] which will always remind me of the experience and of Andy and Martine.
If you are undecided about taking a one day course with this guy, worry you no longer - book now !
My husband and I did this course with Andy a couple of weeks ago, it was AMAZING! Andy is so knowledgeable about his craft also he is very patient and takes time to show you what to do without making you feel stupid. Neither of us had a clue what to do at the beginning of the day and yet we both had beautiful wood bowls at the end of the day!
I simply cannot recommend this course highly enough! I can't wait to do another course with Andy in the future.
Thanks Andy for a fantastic 2 days I bought my son a 2 day course and decided to join him, we both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of turning.
We learned so much but i feel it barely scratched the surface so we will both be back to see you soon
Thanks again to your wife for a great couple of lunches in your lovely garden
Had a fantastic day with Andy, very knowledgeable and patient, happy to answer any questions and had some great off topic conversation. When Andy says the rule is everyone goes home with a bowl he means it. Learnt so much in one day but never felt under pressure and came home having made an excellent bowl. Thank you to Mrs Brownie for a superb lunch.
Will be returning for further lessons. Thank you Andy.
I have just returned from a day's turning course, an early present from my family for my 70'th birthday at the end of next month. I am a complete beginner and Andy was extremely patient and instructed me in the basics of turning a bowl safely on his magnificent bowl lathe. He showed me the importance of correct stance and positioning as well as having the right tools and keeping them sharp.
The elm bowl that I turned and finished with his help is far better than I could have achieved otherwise and his one to one instruction was so much better than watching any number of Youtube videos.
A very enjoyable day in peaceful rural surroundings in an extremely well equipped workshop, highly recommended . I intend to practice and return at some time for further instruction, thank you.
We visited Andy at the beginning of March when I bought my boyfriend a full day course for his birthday, and we had such a great day! We were taught the basics of wood turning and we got to work to made two lovely bowls we were able to take home. The whole day was exceptional with special thanks to his wife for cooking us a lovely cottage pie for lunch. We both learnt a lot and want to make more! I would be very happy to return again as soon as I can.
I had no prior experience of wood turning, but still managed to produce a beautiful bowl by the end of the day. With cups of tea and a home-cooked lunch, this was the perfect way to spend a very enjoyable day.
I just had the most brilliant day with Andy at his Fordingbridge workshop. Andy is a great and patient comunicator . He taught me the basics and has a wealth of knowledge . In just one day I learnt enough to get me started and have got a good idea what tools I will need and makes to buy . My wife booked me the course based on the reviews ,and I can honestly say she made an outsatnding choice .
Thanks for everything Andy and I will be back for more.
I recently bought a second hand lathe with no experience on how to use it. I enrolled for a one day course with Andy which was both enjoyable and informative.
I came home with my first bowl and also an apple made by Andy as I watched, most importantly I came back with enthusiasm to use the lathe as well as the confidence that so long as I remember what I have been taught I can use it safely.
Many thanks Andy and I would certainly recommend anyone else to start with you.
Spent a super day with Andy on this course and came away with a great-looking bowl. He finds exactly the right balance of hands-on/hands-off to enable you to learn whilst keeping on track for a safe and successful outcome.
After receiving a course as a Christmas present I attended with my daughter in law. We both had an excellent, interesting and informative day culminating with each taking home a bowl that is already much admired. Andy was an incredible teacher, patient, experienced, friendly and charming and an amazing craftsman. Oh and his wife provided an amazing cottage pie for lunch. Planning to go back - Its my birthday soon (Hint, hint to family)
Myself and my adult son signed up for a beginners course, and were very pleased with the result.
Andy explained things well, and assisted in sorting out elementary mistakes we made, showing us what to do to avoid them. By the end of the day we had both produced reasonable bowls, and been given ideas on how to improve our techniques.
We both came away with the idea of going back again to improve our skills.
I had a very instructive full day on the lathe with Andy who is most helpful in developing techniques and showing the best way to do things. A big help to me, a relative novice and I would highly recommend him as a good tutor. James W
I received a gift voucher from my wife last Christmas and for various reasons hadn't used it earlier in the year, but finally got round to booking a date in November - and am very glad I did! Had a fabulous day in the workshop with Andy, learnt a tremendous amount, found it thoroughly absorbing, and was really chuffed with the little bowl I came home with.
As a complete novice myself, Andy made me very at ease and explained everything carefully, without anything seeming laboured or too much trouble. The day simply evolved as we went along and there was never any sense of having to rush or fit a prescribed agenda. It was a real pleasure to be doing something manual and creative that demanded full attention - a fantastic distraction from the normal office-based work routine. The homemade shepherd's pie at lunchtime was a treat too - thanks Martine!
Would have no hesitation recommending Andy Browne's wood turning courses - and am actually hoping I might get to go back again sometime...
NB: Reckon wood turning can be quite addictive, so think carefully before booking - unless you have space, time and money to invest in a lathe! ;)
Having not turned wood since School ..more than 43 years ago this course was excellent . Many new and old skills revised and will definitely be booking some more courses. Andy and Martine made me very welcome and having a 2 day one to one course was brilliant. Andy was very patient and willing to pass on not only his knowledge but also contacts for Wood Turning supplies and tools.
Great course anyone doing this will learn so much very highly recommended .
Mervyn Homer November 2018
Very good day with Andy - patient instruction and encouragement as you would expect but I was also able to glean a great deal of information about how to set up my workshop at home. Went home with a lovely bowl and fired with enthusiasm to get going. Tasty home-cooked lunch too!
Thoroughly enjoyed the day with Andy, and learnt a helluva lot - now to try and transfer the skills to the lathe in my workshop! Splendid day, including the delicious home-cooked lunch. I absolutely recommend this course.
I booked a one-day course with Andy as a birthday gift for my 14yr old son, and was encouraged to give it a go myself since I was going to be hanging around anyway. I’m so glad I did as it turned out to be an amazing experience for both of us. My son had kept showing me Woodturning demonstrations on YouTube which made me think he needs to experience the real deal.
Andy IS the real deal! A real wealth of information and skills. His tutoring style is relaxed and friendly, providing the right mix of demonstration, gentle encouragement and letting you go for it. His workshop is an Aladdin’s cave of tools and equipment all neatly displayed. I could see my son was totally awestruck!
The whole day was five-star, topped off with a delicious cottage pie courtesy of Martine, on the decking overlooking a truly beautiful coy carp pond shrouded by various species of bamboo, and surrounded by bonsai trees.
My son is now about to embark on the Duke of Edinburgh Award and he wants Woodturning to be his skill section. Need I say more!
Aaron and I had a fantastic day at the workshop, and came out with two very different bowls that we are particularly proud of! Andy is extremely skilled, very patient, and easy to talk to, the day flew by. Not to mention the amazing lunch served by his lovely wife! After our session, we’ve learnt so much and are thoroughly hooked!
Andy is an extremely talented wood turner but has an enormous amount of patience with beginners. He provided excellent tuition to me and my nine year old son and we came away with a lovely pair of bowls to remember our day.
He definitely gave me the bug for wood turning and is also an extremely nice chap! I was also extremely jealous of his fantastic workshop!
My grown-up children bought me a one-day voucher for Xmas and what an excellent gift this turned out to be. I love wood and have dabbled a bit in making walking sticks, but today’s course with Andy was different class. One 2 One tuition, the undivided attention of a craftsman, when you want/need it and lots of tea/coffee cake, a delicious hot lunch and a bowl to be proud of to take home - now that is a day well spent. Andy shares lots of top tips about the tools and techniques as well as advice on machinery esp lathes etc. I would highly recommend that anyone remotely interested should go on a one-day course - you will not be disappointed - and it was fun! Thanks Andy and good luck with the Bike!
This course was received as a birthday gift and I found it to be an excellent day. Just walking in to Andy's workshop sent my mind spinning as to how I can develop mine. I had no idea what turning would be like, but with his excellent guidance and benefit of his experience I learnt the basics and produced a lovely cedar bowl. Turning is like alchemy for wood and I am now considering various tools and ways in which I can take the skills further.
Just had three days with Andy (my second visit this year). Produced a beech platter, a tulipwood bowl, and a sycamore vase. Excellent tuition from a very talented craftsman. Lovely surroundings, nice lunch, genial company...what's not to like? Loads of tools and techniques to try out. I really recommend a visit here.
I had a great day with a really experienced craftsman.
I went along as a complete novice and Andy enabled me to use two special tools with which to learn the very basic techniques of gradually creating a bowl from a cylindrical block of monkeypuzzle wood. He was patient and gave me guidance at every point in the process forgiving my mistakes and stepping in unobtrusively to rescue me from potential disaster !! I went home with a lovely finished bowl.
An excellent day of tuition in the well fitted out woirkshop with Andy. Covered all aspects of safety, sharpening and profiling of tools, turning and finishing. A good value course to enable a beginner to go away and start. Well recommended.
I booked onto a day course with my partner as we were both intrigued by woodturning, but complete beginners. Andy is really welcoming and the workshop was a great size and space to learn in. It was amazing how quickly we got to work and Andy did a great job at offering useful guidance and insight into the craft. A really enjoyable day with a lovely lunch. Will definitely be keeping in touch and look forward to future tuition.
What a fantastic day with Andy on the lathes. He's a wealth of knowledge and tailored his teaching for us as beginners in an excellent straight forward way which made a most enjoyable day in the workshop. I have no doubt we will be back for some more coaching very shortly (and lunch was great as well!!).
Andy clearly has a wealth of experience and knowledge and is a genuinely good teacher who can encourage and enthuse as well communicate technique. As a complete beginner I approached the day with some apprehension but I needn't have worried - Andy was patient and helpful but never patronising. The workshop was very well equipped and though initially daunted by all the machinery and kit around us, by the day's end I felt comfortable using the lathes, chisels and finishing materials. My son and I both came away feeling not only that we had learned a lot in short time but ,importantly, we had enjoyed the experience, had felt totally engaged and left feeling that woodturning was something we could take on.
My daughter and I joined Andy for a day in his workshop and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. He was very patient with us and taught us lots of Woodturning techniques. We both came away with a cedar bowl (most of which) was made by us on the lathes. Andy’s wife Martine kept us supplied with teas and coffees throughout and made us a lovely lunch. All in all a fun, relaxing but educational day.
I would recommend this course for anyone thinking of getting into Woodturning or someone just wanting to ‘have a go’ thanks Andy & Martine.
Such an awesome day with Andy in his workshop. He is knowledgable, personable and (very) patient. We both left feeling like we’d started a new lifelong hobby and will definitely be back for more lessons in the future.
A very enjoyable half day, one to one, course that introduced me to wood turning. Andy explained the basics and then let me get on with producing my first bowl. With his guidance and assistance I ended up with a nice looking bowl, a sense of achievement and a desire to go back for another session. Not sure where the time went but I have already asked my family for another gift voucher such that I can have another go. Thanks Andy.
This was great. Andy knows his stuff and has loads of great equipment and tools to use in his workshop. He gave me lots of good advice and was very enthusiastic and encouraging. First time ever, I made a bowl which I am very pleased with. We had plenty to talk about and he offered me a super lunch, teas and coffee etc. I will definitely be returning.
I've recently attended a very informative wood turning course with Andy at his place in the New Forest. During the session it became apparent that my wood turning tools were not suited for the production of bowls but would be
more suitable for turning of spindles, I'm now looking to purchase the more appropriate gouges from a source Andy advised me of.
Many many thanks Andy for all your advice and I will persevere with the techniques you've shown to me.
I would also like to thank you & your wife for the refreshments that were supplied during the day, wishing all the best for the future.
An excellent day's tuition - well suited to a pair of absolute beginners! Held in Andy's brilliant workshop, plenty of opportunity to develop basic skills and safety awareness, at a relaxed pace. Tea, coffee and a very tasty home-made lunch (thanks, Martine!!) added to the wonderful day. Many, many thanks.
I hadn't picked up a woodturning chisel in over 10 Years, however Andy made me feel right at home with one in no time at all. The two day course was excelent in every way from the well equipped workshop to the excelent lunch we had each day. Andy is very knowlegable and is very good at imparting that knowledge to you without you feeling like a numpty.
I most definitely feel inspired to blow the cobwebs off my lathe and to put my new skills to the test.
A well equipped workshop and an inspiring teacher come together to introduce the concept of wood turning. A first class introduction to answer the question 'Is this for me?' with a hands on and safe experience that gives a real feel of the art of turning so you can get started .
This first experience ends with taking home a bowl that you make yourself. When I go for my next lesson, I want to wreck pieces of wood to focus on technique of applying blade to surface.
Andy clearly explains how to do the turning and then under his expert guidance you get plenty of time on the lathe. I would really recommend this as a day for anyone wanting to get to grips with turning.
I made a bowl which was really nice and great to come away with a memento of the day. Martine gives you a lovely lunch.
Andy is a very knowledgeable teacher and puts things across in a very easy way to understand and put into practice. First time wood turning in over 20 years and made a quite a few mistakes, but Andy was right there to advise how to fix it. If it was not something I was able to fix he was able to work his magic and have it fixed in no time. With all the hints and tips I got through out the day I know I am well on my way to becoming a wood turner.
Andy and his wife were so welcoming and lovely to spend time with. Nothing was to much trouble through out the whole day. If you have the option of what to have for lunch I would highly recommend the lasagne (top notch lunch) :)
I will definitely be getting some more lessons and can highly recommend going to Andy for lessons.
I’m recently bought my first lathe as a beginner but realised I needed more guidance despite having attended another course. Andy tailored the two days to my needs. He taught me how to sharpen my tools properly and how to mount work safely. He also encouraged me to try different cutting techniques and not to be afraid of the skew chisel! He is a real expert and patiently helps develop confidence. I’d happily recommend Andy, and I’m likely to go for a refresher in the future. Martine also provides great food!
My wife gave me this course with Andy as a birthday present after I had taken up woodturning again after an absence of some 15 years and I can't thank her and Andy enough. I hadn't realised so much had changed over the years and I learnt so much and came away with so many ideas and inspiration.
Just wish Andy hadn't told me I was turning using the old fashioned method as this made me feel old :).
Great teacher really patient and knowledgeable. Great course which I recommend, you'll learn so much.
I recently attended a wood turning beginners day with Andy at his fantastically equipped workshop in Fordingbridge. As someone who has dabbled (not very successfully!) in wood turning in the past, this was the ideal course for me. Andy has an adaptability in his teaching approach and superb knowledge and skill. With Andy's help I was able to take away a very lovely bowl in cedar, and Andy has given me the confidence to progress in my own turning once again.
Many thanks to Andy for a superb day!
I am a very experienced D.T. teacher but had done very little wood turning prior to the one day course I have just attended. Andy's workshop is very well equipped with the very best of lathes and other equipment . It is was impressively clean and tidy on my arrival but less so on my departure. Andy has thought through the content of his course with great care. I came away with a lot of basic knowledge that has well prepared me for the future. I expected to leave the course with some turned exercise pieces of fair quality , however Andy instilled in me the importance of producing work of the highest quality. The bowl that I produced was , thanks to Andy's teaching both well turned and finished using simple but highly effective techniques.
An excellent course in all aspects.
This was bought as a last minute activity day by my boyfriend. We had a great time with Andy teaching us how to turn a bowl, would definitely recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested in this craft and don't worry you don't need any wood turning or similar skills. Thankfully Andy will come and rescue you if you start shaving off large parts of your bowl and it starts to resemble more of a plate!
I’ve just spent a most enjoyable 3 days learning how to turn wood. Andy is hugely experienced and is an expert teacher who sets a perfect balance of demonstration and supervision. I can’t believe how fast the hours swept by and how completely immersed I was in this magical craft. The other thing that left me awestruck was the workshop and the tools. Andy’s lathes are simply the best! And he has every tool you ever need – all of which are first class and exceptionally well maintained. I wholeheartedly recommend Andy to all potential and practising wood turners. I will be returning to learn how to make a turned box.
We thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to woodturning (and our delicious homemade lunch). Andy makes sure that by the end of the day you have a bowl that looks beautiful and extremely professional. Thanks Andy!
After booking the full day course for myself and my husband, we had a brilliant day in Andy's workshop and came away with two amazing bowls that are now proudly on display in our living room. Being a complete novice, I was a little apprehensive at working on the machines, but Andy was incredibly patient and took us through the entire process, explaining every step along the way. We would thoroughly recommend this course and would happily book again. Top marks to Mrs Browne too for a lovely lunch.
I spent the day from 10-4.30 learning a huge amount of information about woodturning . I am probably intermediate in level but l learnt a great deal to up my game both in the practicality of deep bowl turning and hollow shape turning. I rang Andy the previous evening and he had prepared 2 pieces for me to work on as well as giving a continuous cascade of knowledge and tips and tool advice ( especially in the sharpening of tools) The day exceeded my expectations and well worth £125 including the 2 pieces to take home. And a fine lunch by Ms Brown. I would thoroughly recommend this learning opportunity.
Tuesday 19th Sept 2017 my wife and I drove from Herefordshire to Hampshire to attend a days woodturning course with Andy and what a fantastic day it was.
As complete beginners and (I mean complete beginners) we were soon put at ease in a relaxed well equipt environment. Andy has a very friendly and down to earth approach to teaching, we not only enjoyed the course but enjoyed his company.
Teas and coffees flowed all day, and we had a lovely lunch in Andy's garden followed by homemade walnut cake courtesy of his wife Martine.
The woodturning course itself was fun, informative and If I'm honest was a little more difficult than we both first thought - but with Andy's help and patience at the end of the day we both came away with what I would call "works of art" or 2 well made wooden bowls which we are both incredibly proud of.
We would thoroughly recommend Andy's course to anyone who wishes to learn the art of woodturning and we can't thank Andy enough for such a great experience, we did not only come away with our 2 lovely bowls but also felt we came away with 2 new friends
As complete beginners, we were keen but a little apprehensive. However, with Andy's patient and expert guidance we had a fantastic time. We came away with two lovely bowls which now have pride of place at home. We would thoroughly recommend Andy as a very knowledgeable and encouraging teacher. It was also lovely to meet Andy's wife, Martine, who was very welcoming and kind. All in all, a wonderful day.
I did a small amount of wood turning about 10 years ago and recently decided to dig out the old lathe and have another go. This did not go too well and so I decided that I needed to get some help.
I came across Andy’s Web site and read the reviews which were all excellent. My children gave me a day course as a Birthday gift. On the day of my course I arrived at Andy’s workshop and straight away was made to feel at home. I had brought my own gouges so Andy could check my sharpening technique. I soon realised that I had no sharpening technique ! Andy reshaped and sharpened my gouges and we made a start on a bowl. I found Andy very patient and he explained things clearly. When I got it wrong he just showed me again. I learnt a great amount during the day and went home with the confidence to practice what I had been shown. Now my gouges are sharp things are starting to go a bit better on my old lathe.
I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning wood turning.
I don’t normally pay much attention to reviews but I totally agree with all the good comments made by previous students. I would definitely like to attend one of Andy’s other courses once I have had some more turning time. Roll on next birthday.
My Dad and I had a great day woodturning with Andy. As a complete novice, I appreciated Andy explaining to us the tools and techniques involved and by the end of the day we had each produced a respectable looking bowl; with a little help from Andy along the way! Andy was very knowledgeable and helped coach us through the process. The workshop is very well equipped and in a great location in the New Forest. The lunch and tea breaks were also welcome! I would recommend the course to anyone looking for an introduction to woodturning and would be keen to go back and learn some more myself! Thanks for a great day Andy.
I had always wanted to try wood turning so i booked two days with andy, had a great time, andy is great teacher really learnt a lot and would definitely recommend andy to anyone who wants to learn about wood turning .
I have spent a very enjoyable day in Andy's workshop with my sister in law. We both made bowls. Andy was helpful and informative. Woodturning was not new to me but I have come away with a renewed enthusiasm, some new skills and a whole host of ideas. My husband has his head in his hands at the endless ideas. I will be booking agin for sure.
Thanks again for the teas too.
Whether you are a beginner or experienced Andy will help you to the next level, beautiful location, excellent workshop and tools (with all the correct safety provisions) an excellent and relaxed teacher, the course was time and money well spent - and you get excellent food to.
I would recommend Andy to anyone who wants to learn more.5
This course was fantastic. Andy is very patient and a great teacher. It was relaxed and fun but very informative. I have come away with some great new skills. I will definitely do another course in the future!
2 excellent days spent in Andy's superb workshop in a delightful setting by the New Forest. He has a wealth of knowledge on tools, technique and timber which he dispenses in a relaxed but informative style. I came away with greater skills and confidence and a notebook full of useful tips. I only wish I'd done it sooner!
Wanted to learn how to wood turn,Andy made this possible in his excellent work shop with great guidance . Overall I had a fantastic day and came away having learnt the basics and rewarded with a lovely bowl. Great day , thanks Andy.
I gave my Partner a day with Andy learning wood turning, and did the course with him. It was a super day. Andy was warm and welcoming. His workshop was professional, and safe. His equipment was very high spec and well cared for. Andy was very reassuring , and encouraging, and my Partner was delighted to be able to get on with his bowl and experiment under Andy's watchful eye, or ear.
I would highly recommend this course. I learnt so much about holding the tools correctly and the different effect of different cuts. And we both took home beautiful bowls we had made.
I recently had a one-on-one day with Andy and, as a new-boy to wood turning, I was not disappointed. He patiently explained the craft, took me through the tools that are used and all aspects of the lathes and the other machinery that he has. He advised on the various woods used for turning, and how best to season the wood. He helped me turn a bowl during the day using a variety of tools. He also advised me on the best makes of lathes and other machinery that I should be considering for in due course, and offered to give me his opinion on any machine prior to me actually buying. I would highly recommend Andy for anybody wanting to find out about wood turning, or to improve their skills.
I had always fancied trying wood turning, and I'm glad I did so through this great course. As a total beginner it was a steep learning curve, but it was incredibly satisfying and ultimately very creative. Under the expert tuition of Andy you will learn loads, and will enjoy every second of your time in his workshop - give it a try, you won't regret it.
As an engineer I have always wanted to learn how to turn in wood. I heard about Andy from a friend and decided to book a day for a beginners course in wood turning.
What a day I had with This skilled guy, Andy Browne, his turning ability was second to none with a professional workshop. He soon got me up and running to turn my own bowl. The day was fantastic I learnt so much in such a short time. I didn't want the day to end. I shall be booking a second day with Andy to take my skill to another level.
Thank you Andy for a brilliant and informative day. I would recommend Andy to anyone who is thinking of learning wood turning.
My son recently bought me a days wood turning course with Andy as a birthday present. Like my son I have always had a strong desire to be able to work with wood and design my own creations. At long last I had the opportunity to spend the day with a wood turning expert.
Andy's wood turning skills are quite staggering. His very own turned creations are simply amazing. I even turned a small bowl myself with Andy's help which I could never have done before the course.
Andy is a great teacher and has such a relaxed manner you will really enjoy the experience. A top birthday present! Many thanks Andy!
I recently completed a day's 'woodturning for beginners' course with Andy at his workshop in the delightful Hampshire countryside...
I was a total novice to woodturning before and was slightly nervous about how well I would handle the tools/ machinery but Andy's calm and very patient nature put me at ease straight away. This really helped me relax and enjoy the day to the full.
I learnt an incredible amount over the day and can definitely recommend it to anybody out there wanting to learn the amazing skill of woodturning.
I was so impressed I bought another full day's course with Andy for my father as a birthday present!
The added bonus are the stunning rural surroundings where Andy is based. You won't find a more desirable and idyllic location to spend a day woodturning, anywhere!
A great day indeed - many thanks Andy!
As a cabinetmaker I have been looking for quite some time to introduce turned design details as part of my furniture portfolio. As an initial step towards this I enlisted the help of Andy Browne.
The day spent with him in his workshop proved to be 'just what the doctor ordered'.
His level of expertise in all matters woodturning was a joy to behold.... materials, tools, their preparation, sharpening and uses, finishing materials and techniques (his textured and coloured
workpieces were real eye openers!). It was all there in the most wonderfully equipped workshop imaginable. All that coupled with Andy's easy going nature and relaxed teaching style made for a very enjoyable and fruitful day.... I will be returning soon and can't recommend it highly enough to any one wishing to start learning, or to increase their existing skill level in woodturning.
I had always wanted to try my hand at wood-turning and Andy was recommended to me by a friend. I was very impressed with his workshop and how professionally set-up it was. The day started with a safety talk regarding the tools we would be using and the workplace in general. Throughout the day Andy gave me clear instruction and advice and answered the numerous questions I had. By the time we had finished I had turned a bowl, of which I'm very proud.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with Andy and would recommend giving it a go.
I will defiantly be booking in again and am looking forward to learning more.
I recently participated in a wood turning beginners day course with Andy at his workshop in Fordingbridge , Hampshire.
The day proved to be informative and very interesting and Andy was very patient as I was a beginner and he was able to teach me the basics of wood turning and the use of the equipment in a language that I found easy to understand . I came away with good sound knowledge of the basics of wood turning and all this was achieved in one day !
Thanks Andy . I will be recommending your day courses to others and to anyone reading this review I can vouch for Andy's expertise and easy to understand teaching methods for the novice .
I will be returning to Andy's day courses and hopefully this is the start of a hobby that I will enjoy for many years to come .
