About the Course

This is a full day woodworking course where you will be able to make a really useful and decorative wooden box made from beautiful hardwood Ash. The box will have a bottom applied and a removable lid.

You will be guided along by Jenni Kehoe, the founder of The Wood Project. Taught by her skilled grandfather and through her own learning and passion, Jenni setup her own woodworking brand and business, providing wood products inspired by the outdoors. She has her own online shop selling products such as chopping boards and furniture. She creates signage for businesses using CNC machinery and also takes on custom wood projects for mainly commercial customers such as cocktail bars, coffee shop units and more.

Jenni is an experienced mentor when it comes to practical tasks as she also works at a Sussex based farm during lambing time each year, teaching guests how to be a shepherd and learning how to deliver lambs.

Through the love of teaching others new skills, Jenni wants to encourage more people to "have a go" and learn in a relaxed environment, without feeling overwhelmed with what can be an intimidating world of complex joinery and tool skills. Woodwork doesn't have to be complicated and beautiful products can easily be created.

You will be based in her Sussex workshop with a maximum of 3 students for the day so that you can be given plenty of attention.

To piece together the box, we will be using a simple form of joinery using your own made wooden dowels. This will require the use of a variety of hand tools and even some machinery such as a mitre saw and a drill. A slow and steady approach with tips and tricks to help you along in achieving a nicely finished box.

If time allows, we can even engrave the box lid with a name or initial and even apply wood wax to finish off the box, bringing the grain out.

This is an ideal day for complete beginners who have no wood joinery experience. If you are looking for a fun and relaxed environment to learn in, this is the course for you. You will be able to use a variety of tools throughout the day such as a hand saw, hammer, router and clamps to name a few. All tools are provided, including safety equipment such as gloves, goggles and dust masks.

Based in our Henfield workshop in West Sussex, 10am to 4pm (approximate finish time dependant on how students progress).
