Description

Welcome to The Rivershop, where the art of carpentry takes center stage. In this introductory class to carpentry-led table making, you'll immerse yourself in the craft, guided by experienced artisans. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned woodworker, this course will equip you with the skills needed to create a stunning table that's both functional and visually appealing. Timber selection is the cornerstone of any woodworking project. You'll learn to discern the characteristics of different wood species, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity in your table. Understanding timber movement is crucial, as you'll discover how factors like humidity impact wood, allowing you to anticipate and account for these changes in your design. Joinery techniques are essential for assembling your table with precision. You'll learn the art of joining wood seamlessly, under the guidance of our expert instructors. Sanding is the gateway to a polished finish, and you'll master proper sanding techniques to achieve a smooth surface ready for staining and sealing. Finishing your table is where creativity meets craftsmanship. You'll explore a range of Odie’s Oils, discovering how each enhances the natural beauty of wood while providing protection. Staining with Odei's oils and pigments adds depth and character to your creation, allowing you to personalise your table to reflect your style and taste. By the end of this course, you'll have the confidence and skills to embark on your own carpentry projects. Whether you're crafting a rustic farmhouse table or a sleek modern design, The Rivershops Introduction to Carpentry-Led Table Making will empower you to bring your vision to life. Join us, and let your creativity flow as freely as the rivers themselves. The table top made in this course is approximately 500x300x30mm and teaches you all the steps you need to know to create your own table. Should you wish to make a larger table with legs at our workshop, please don’t hesitate to contact us for a bespoke booking or 1-2-1. We look forward to welcoming you to the Rivershop!

Richard has been teaching this intro class since 2018 after realising that all the challenges of working with epoxy resin were bound to be frustrating aspiring makers around the world as much as they were for him. After realising that working with epoxy resin was actually quite easy once you knew a few simple tricks and the basic principles, he started inviting you to join him in the workshop to master the tricks of the trade for yourself.
