About the Course

Willow Work: Small Willow Sculptures
Tutor: Jo Hammond
Level: Open for Everyone

This course will show you how to make simple willow structures such as birds, woven balls or your own creative idea. No previous experience of willow work is necessary.

Guided with clear demonstrations and individual help, you’ll learn how to select, prepare and work with willow withies, just as gardeners and growers have for hundreds of years.

Willow is charged at cost according to how productive you are! All the materials will be provided, but please expect to reimburse the tutor about £10 - £15 for each item you make.

Jo Hammond is a local artist and adult education tutor with a wide range of skills and interests, teaching classes in drawing and painting, willow work and basketry.

Flatford Mill lies at the heart of the Dedham Vale, on the banks of the River Stour near the Suffolk-Essex border. The Centre buildings, particularly the Mill and Willy Lott’s House, are instantly recognisable since they feature in many paintings by John Constable. The rich mosaic of lowland landscapes, wildlife habitats and places of historic interest are all reflected in our extensive programme of courses.

The Centre is located between Colchester and Ipswich and is about 10 miles from each, approximately 2 miles from the A12.
