Caradon Wood is nestled in a beautiful and lush Cornish valley, with the River Lyhner flowing along its eastern boundary. Set in a beautiful tranquil 40 acre ancient Oak woodland, you will be welcomed with an a cup of tea, and the sights, sounds and smells of nature. This is a one-day experience, a chance to leave the crowds and the noise behind and reconnect with nature. The day will combine Shinrin-yoku, (forest bathing) and Green woodcraft, We all know how good being in nature can make us feel. The sounds of the forest, the scent of the trees, the sunlight playing through the leaves, the fresh, clean air — these things give us a sense of comfort. They ease our stress and worry, help us to relax and to think more clearly. Being in nature can restore our mood, give us back our energy and vitality, refresh and rejuvenate us. For the first half of the day you will be guided on a slow walk through woods and invited to open all your senses and experience the woods. We will end our walk in our 3 acre meadow where you will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch of local, seasonal produce. After lunch we will turn our attention to green woodcraft, an age-old method of making practical and beautiful objects from freshly cut ‘green’ wood. Under the guidance of our experienced tutors, you will learn how to use traditional hand tools axes, knives, crook knives, to craft, carve and create spatulas, butter knives, You will learn safe knife techniques that can be used to carve beautiful walking sticks. Why not consider staying the night before the workshop giving you a deeper experience of being in nature, stay in our 3 acre meadow, take a dip in the river and enjoying the crystal clear night sky afforded us by our remote location on the foothills of Bodmin Moor, and enjoy an evening relaxing around the campfire. You can hire one of our 5m bell tents, £95 for up to two people then £40/additional person up to a max of five per tent. Or you can bring your own tent and camp within our 40-acre woodland: price £10.00pp/night. We also run a variety of other courses and programs . There are 1-day, 2-day options, as well as the opportunity to come an “Just Stay” and enjoy 40 acres of ancient woodland all to yourself. A booking of 4 or more will give you a 10% discount. Just contact us with preferred dates and we'll work with you to create your course.
