Courses take place in various venues but all will be equipped with hot drinks throughout the day. All tools are provided but people are welcome to bring their own as this can add to discussions which can benefit others. If your knife needs a sharpen you will be able to do this on the day. We are usually under cover and often indoors. Bring warm outdoor clothing just in case but be aware we might be by an open fire.
I recently attended Dave’s one day knife and sharp tool course, I found the day to be one of the most interesting and informative days I have been on for a long time, the information given by Dave was clear and set at a level to suit everyone’s experience. Dave has a huge range of knowledge and experience, I learnt so many new skills and refreshed long forgotten ones, so much so it has re-enthused a passion for bush craft.
This was an excellent days training for knife skills. The pattern of the day was very much focused on doing rather than talking about it. You gave us very clear instructions and lots of positive reinforcement during the practical sessions. You managed to have everyone totally focused throughout the whole day(it is very unusual for our group to be so quiet but there were long periods of silence as everyone was concentrating so hard!) and everyone was very proud of the work that they managed to achieve.
You also managed to alleviate many fears about children using knives safely and gave really helpful advice on the organisation of equipment and how to manage a session safely.
I was also very grateful for the advice that you gave me on purchasing a really good knife after the course.
In May of 2014, myself and several others, took part in a one day introduction day on the use of knives and saws.
Within the group was a mixture of abilities and experience, and yet we all left with an increased knowledge.
The day was structured and informative, with chunks of information and practical giving time for learning and practising, without an overloading of information or a tiring of hand muscles which had not previously been over used.
It is a course I would thoroughly recommend.
