Description

Join us for a day in the woods delving into the world of bushcraft. Bushcraft is an umbrella term for a wide range of practical skills that allow us to thrive in the outdoors. Bushcraft is an understanding of the natural environment and how we can utilise resources around us in a sustainable way. Over the day we will be looking at a few basic skills to get you started on your bushcraft journey. We start with fire. Fire is at the core of bushcraft, essential for providing warmth, preparing food and purifying water, knowing how to light a fire in any weather is key to the bushcraft way of life. Over the morning we will learn how to obtain dry firewood and tinder material and how to use a fire striker to light your first fire. The afternoon will be spent learning how to craft useful items with basic tools. We will cover basic wood carving techniques and how to safely use an axe, saw and knife. By the end of the day you will have a deeper understanding of the woodland environment and a foundation of skills to begin practicing bushcraft on your future adventures. Tools, materials and hot drinks are provided, please bring a packed lunch. This course will be held under a large shelter but please come dressed for the weather as we will be outdoors for the whole day. No previous experience required.
