Description
Spend two days at our woodland workshop making your own woven seat stool. On this course you will learn traditional joinery and green woodworking skills as you create the frame for your stool and then weave the seat using Danish cord. By the end of the weekend you will leave with a robust and characterful stool made by your own two hands. What to expect: Across the two days you will work with tools and timber harvested from the woodland around you. The course is relaxed, practical and fully guided, with all materials provided. No previous experience is needed. Day 1: Begin by preparing the legs and stretchers of your stool using a draw knife and shave horse to carve pieces of green ash. After lunch you will be guided through the process of assembling your stool frame. You will use a round mortise and tenon joint that naturally shrinks and tightens as the wood dries. By the end of the first day your frame will be complete and finished with a coat of oil ready for weaving. Day 2: On the second day your stool begins to take shape as you weave the seat from Danish cord. You will learn a classic weave that is both strong and comfortable and discover how to hold even tension as the pattern builds. The pace is calm and steady with plenty of time to refine your technique. By the afternoon your weaving will be finished and you will have a beautiful stool ready to take home. Who is the course for: This course is ideal for complete beginners as well as those with some woodworking experience who would like to deepen their understanding of green wood craft. All tools and materials are included along with hot drinks throughout the weekend. You will leave with new skills greater confidence and a handmade stool that will serve you well for many years.
