Woodland Blacksmithing and Bushcraft Course

An enjoyable day learning traditional Blacksmithing and Bushcraft skills surrounded by historic woodland in the beautiful Chiltern Hills! With over 7 hours of activity it’s a packed day of hammer swinging and fire lighting where you will walk away with your own hand made goods! Hosted by Bill's Workshop in Partnership with Pathhill Outdoors, this course will be located at Pathhill’s Woodland Forge in South Oxfordshire. Parking is easily available onsite with hot drinks and snacks provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch and refillable water bottle. This course allows for lots of direct teaching time with a small and focused number of people on each course (6) allowing you to get fantastic personal tuition from our team.

What's included in the price?

The Days Overview: Please arrive for a 9:30am start where you will venture into the woods to meet the team and get to know the workshop. After you have a hot drink, we will divide into two groups that will be guided though the morning session by an expert member of the team learning Blacksmithing or Bushcraft. After lunch the groups will swap activities and by the end of the day walk away with a new set of bushcraft and fire lighting skills as well as your very own hand forged fire poker, for use in indoor fire-places or BBQ's alike as well as handmade fire steels. The day will come to a close at 5pm. -You will be emailed further documentation and information upon purchase to fill out and return. -Private bookings of up to 6 people are available for this course, please get in touch to arrange. -All safety equipment provided -Over 18s only -For this course you do need to be reasonably fit and healthy as it is hot and hard work throughout the day on your feet. -If you have any concerns or disability please get in contact to discuss what arrangements can be made to make the course more accessible for you and answer any questions -Please wear full length trousers (an old pair of jeans are ideal) and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty as well as old trainers or boots - no open toed shoes, flip flops or sliders.

After a apprenticeship in blacksmithing and now with years of experience we have started offing courses to ignite the creativity in others and share our skills to bring the unique craft to others. All our courses take place at Pathhill Outdoors which has been a huge part of my life as I am also a bushcraft and outdoor instructor. This fantastic venue offers 'The Woodland Forge' an off grid traditional blacksmiths workshop set in stunning woodland. A wonderful place to escape and spend a day learning new skills.

"I recently had the pleasure of attending a unique experience day that combined blacksmithing and bushcraft, nestled in a scenic woodland setting. Under the shelter of a rustic forge, our instructor Billy introduced us to the basics of blacksmithing. Despite the initial challenge, Billy’s expert guidance and fun approach made the complex techniques accessible and enjoyable. We crafted our own steel tools, which felt incredibly rewarding. The day continued with bushcraft fire making with Alex, who expertly demonstrated various traditional and innovative techniques, from flint and steel, solar, friction and chemical methods, and the different fire types. The highlight was undoubtedly using flint and the steel we had made earlier at the forge to spark fires, over which we boiled kettles for a well-deserved tea! This experience was not just about learning new skills but also about connecting with traditional crafts in a hands-on, immersive environment and I would highly recommend it. We will be returning for another course in the future! "
