Maker's bio

Bill's Workshop is a bespoke blacksmithing and woodwork company dedicated to providing a unique outlook on the creation of products. After a apprenticeship in blacksmithing and now with years of experience we have started offing courses to ignite the creativity in others and share our skills to bring the unique craft to others. All our courses take place at Pathhill Outdoors which has been a huge part of my life as I am also a bushcraft and outdoor instructor. This fantastic venue offers 'The Woodland Forge' an off grid traditional blacksmiths workshop set in stunning woodland. A wonderful place to escape and spend a day learning new skills.

Stephen reviewed: Traditional Blacksmith Experience Day

"I really enjoyed this day, Billy actually adapted this day to suit the participants and this is great . Always looking to make the day great and get everyone creating . Left with many things made myself and actually impressed with . Instruction is top notch , all steps are clear , and managed to execute on all various aspects of this course . Loved it , it’s a great day. Location is outdoors and perfect for not only the weather but for this type of experience to get out side and do stuff that’s fun, engaging and hands on. Will def be doing more forging "

Bill's Workshop responded:

"Awesome that you have come back so soon and once again had a thrilling day! you made some brilliant pieces that you should be very proud of, forging is not an easy thing and you have definitely got to grips with the craft, I hope you are able to use the BBQ skewers this summer!, they came out particularly well! I hope to see you again on another course soon - All the best - Billy "

Stephen reviewed: Blacksmiths knife forging course

"Really enjoyed this knife among course and is something I wanted to to do for a long time . The outdoors forge and environment make it ideal for getting out and doing something interesting and worth while. Instruction is excellent, able to follow and execute all steps with clarity, albeit taking many times longer than the master himself of course ;) "

Bill's Workshop responded:

"Hi Stephen! Glad you has such an enjoyable time, it was a pleasure having you in the forge and you are welcome back anytime! see you soon - Billy "

Paul Kourellias reviewed: Garden Sculpture Course

"Billy is a lovely guy and clearly very talented. He was very patient and polite when we made mistakes and didn’t make me feel uncomfortable at all, which can’t have been easy! All together a great day and a good insight into this age old skill. Highly recommended."

Bill's Workshop responded:

"Was a pleasure having you along Paul! hopefully hear from you in the future about more in-depth blacksmithing courses. All the best! -Billy "

Alice Graddon reviewed: Gift For Him! Woodland Blacksmithing and Bushcraft Course

"I recently had the pleasure of attending a unique experience day that combined blacksmithing and bushcraft, nestled in a scenic woodland setting. Under the shelter of a rustic forge, our instructor Billy introduced us to the basics of blacksmithing. Despite the initial challenge, Billy’s expert guidance and fun approach made the complex techniques accessible and enjoyable. We crafted our own steel tools, which felt incredibly rewarding. The day continued with bushcraft fire making with Alex, who expertly demonstrated various traditional and innovative techniques, from flint and steel, solar, friction and chemical methods, and the different fire types. The highlight was undoubtedly using flint and the steel we had made earlier at the forge to spark fires, over which we boiled kettles for a well-deserved tea! This experience was not just about learning new skills but also about connecting with traditional crafts in a hands-on, immersive environment and I would highly recommend it. We will be returning for another course in the future! "

Bill's Workshop responded:

"Hey Alice, I’m so glad all of you had such a great time and we’re really able to grasp the skills we went through so well and had so many laughs while we did! That is a lovely review, again I’m so chuffed you enjoyed your woodland Blacksmithing course and I can’t wait to see you again on another one ! All the best -Billy "
