Learn to use silver clay to make unique jewellery on this half day introductory silver metal clay workshop in Exeter.
Metals clay is fine metal powder mixed with a binder to create malleable clay that can be moulded, textured, rolled and cut out. The clay is then dried before being fired with a torch (which can be done using an inexpensive torch at home) or with a kiln to produce a solid piece of metal. We will be demonstrating firing with a torch so you know what you can achieve in a home environment.
You will learn how to roll & cut precious silver clay, add textures, layering, drying and torch-firing, finishing pre and post firing including burnishing, polishing and adding a patina to the surface of the silver.
Fired silver clay results in 99.9% fine silver pieces, which you can send for hall-marking at a UK assay office if you wanted to as it is fine enough silver to do so.
On this course, during 4 hours you can create your own project. You can make 2 - 3 pieces of jewellery.

Jacquelin, thank you very much. It was very nice to meet you and work together. Gifted people like you can make everything not just a ring.Really helpful course. Materials and lots of useful pointers and helpful hints provided. Came away with 3 lovely pieces.
Anna is a friendly and helpful teacher. It is best to plan only one or two pieces. I made three but had to finish them off at home and was only able to make them in the time as Anna went over the booked time. Generous.
