About the Course

Learn the beautiful art of silk painting. Create your own unique piece for yourself or as a perfect gift!

This one-day course is a perfect introduction to silk painting, for either beginners and as a refresher course.

Silk painting offers you the opportunity to explore and experiment with texture and design, as colour diffuses and floods the fabric the moment it is applied.

Originating from China, we explore the main techniques of painting on silk, including gutta work and various texture effects. You will go home with several sample pieces and a unique, hand-painted silk scarf or silk tie.

In the morning, you will be introduced to all the possibilities of silk painting. After a 30 minute lunch-break, you will develop your own designs, or use templates available. You will learn how to transfer your design onto silk and try out a range of painting effects and techniques. Once you have a final design, you will transfer it onto your final piece, and paint using all the skills you have learned.

You will learn:
•How to design a silk painting
•How to transfer your design onto silk
•How to use gutta and make an outline
•How to use different painting techniques and texture tools, including sea salt
•How to paint using silk
