About the Course
Join us for a relaxing day of creativity with step-by-step tuition and practical demonstrations to help you design and create your own coastal cottage scene.
Start by choosing a piece of wood for the base of your design. Then select your wooden cottages which are handmade from recycled timber and are ready to paint and personalise. Once the cottages are glued in place it's time to accessorise your scene with a variety of seaside features.
The driftwood pieces average between 6” and 12” in length and the houses/buildings are approx 1” to 2” in height. As each piece of driftwood is unique the size of the finished sculptures will vary.
We are two sisters, Melanie, a teacher and Debra an artist with over twenty years experience. The Seal's Whiskers workshops have been inspired by our love of all things coastal, we spend our free time beach-combing and creating unique artwork using the flotsam and jetsam.
Presently we only run the workshops on demand for a minimum of six people, please message with date and number of places you require.
The workshop is located in a peaceful North Yorkshire village two miles from the A1 motorway and three miles from Knaresborough railway station (from where collection can be arranged).
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I was amazed at what I was able to create in a day. Mel and Debra had a huge variety of resources available, coupled with loads of experience and enthusiasm. All 4 of us on the course created wonderful scenes, yet they were all very different and individualistic. Lunch outside in a lovely setting was an added bonus. A brilliant start to our holiday.

Fantastic day, relaxed and informal. Well organised with lots of choice of materials and beautiful driftwood. The organisers were obviously very knowledgable and creative, and had a genuine passion for using reclaimed resources. It was the perfect mix of demonstrations and handy tips whilst letting us experiment and get completely submerged in our individual pieces. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a unique experience in a quaint and relaxed surrounding.

Thoroughly enjoyed the coastal cottages workshop today. Mel and Debbie created a lovely relaxed atmosphere, with clear instruction and tuition. There was an abundance of hand made individual cottages and buildings to choose from and paint with lots of bits and bobs to bring your coastal scene to life. Kept us thoroughly absorbed all day with beautiful scenes to take home. Would definitely recommend this workshop.

Thank you Debra and Melanie for a fantastic day. Everything was perfect. I am really inspired to make lots more. If the sun had been shining at the end of the course, I would have been tempted to drive straight to the sea to add to my already extensive collection of beach finds.
