Hello! Please note that we are only running Live Online Workshops between now and June. Please do check out our Online Workshop listings for more details.
Have fun turning old t-shirts and forgotten favourites into recycled works of art with the age-old skill of rag rugging. In this full day class you will learn all the skills you will need to be able to make unique rag rugs, cushions and art to spice up your home. Careful though, it’s addictive!
In this workshop, which is run at the wonderful craft venue, Make Create Craft in Surrey, you will have the chance to start either a 100 x 60cm rag rug, rag rug cushion or smaller project. We also run specific Rag Rug Christmas Wreath workshops so keep your eyes peeled for seasonal classes. In any of our full day classes you will learn:
- How to use the rag rug equipment
- How to work with hessian
- Materials (selecting & preparing)
- How to design for rag rug
- Both rag rugging techniques (loopy & shaggy)
You will be provided with all the materials you need during the class but as the charm of rag rugging is often in the memories attached to old clothes, you're welcome to bring along any of your own clothing you’d like to incorporate, particularly if you have clothing with sentimental value that you'd like to use.
Our rag rug teacher, Elspeth Jackson, is one of the leading rag ruggers in the country. She is one of the expert teachers at the Knitting & Stitching Show, has had a rag rug book, "Rag Rugs, Pillows & More," published on the subject and is a regular in craft magazines - you'll be in very good hands!
This class is suitable for all levels but do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
This class includes everything you need for your rag rug project but we ask that you bring a packed lunch with you. You'll be provided with tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the class. Also included is a free rag rug latch hook to take home with you.
Elspeth taught this course and was wonderful-patient and incredibly knowledgeable. I walked away from the course with the materials and the inspiration to start my journey into rag rugging. I highly recommend this course.
Thanks for your kind words Jennifer, I'm glad you enjoyed it, you may have caught the rag rugging bug :-)
Elspeth was a great tutor. Very clear and well prepared. She had lots of useful tips, clear handouts and equipment that you could buy at the end of the class, so that you didn't have to wait to use your new found skills! She made it fun and we would definitely recommend this course.5
