What to expect:
I will start with short introduction on tools and materials that will be used during the class. After that we will start creating a base shape from white core wool. Once the piece is well sculpted we will be adding layers of coloured wool and detail. It will be a step by step process & everyone will be able to finish and take home their own needle felted creation.
2D pictures are made from coloured wool, needle felted onto a felt fabric - students usually work with their own reference photos as an inspiration.
For those who want to practice needle felting at home, I will have quality materials and tools for sale: felting wool in selection of beautiful colours (from £1 per colour), felting needles and mats and felting kits (on request).
Location & time:
It usually is a 3-4 hour session starting at 2:10pm.
Workshops take place at Polonia Club, 31 Chesterton Road, Cambridge (library, on the first floor - unfortunately no disabled access at the moment). There is a free parking by the venue and on the street.
Group bookings and private one to one sessions are possible, please contact me for details.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
I will supply all the tools and materials needed: foam pad, needles & animal wool.
You will be using a quality needle felting star needles - every student will get one new needle to work with and take home - felting needles are very sharp and can cause injury. Students who bring/use their own felting needles will be given some wool instead.
There will be a short break - tea coffee & biscuits will be provided.

What a lovely workshop. The Lady Moth is a kind and patient tutor, and because it was a small group, there was plenty of time for everyone to be given the guidance we needed. All first timers and yet we were able to make a lovely creation to take home. Highly recommended.
I have attended three classes with The Lady Moth. Today I made a lovely little wren. I would highly recommend Zenia as a tutor. She is patient, encouraging and helps you through the tricky bits so that you feel happy with what you take home. The teaching groups are small and friendly. I look forward to booking another course soon.
Had a great afternoon creating an owl through needle felting in a nice small group. Zenia has a great teaching methodology where she breaks the process down into stages, with a short demo followed by us having a go. There were also examples on the table of needle felted owls at various stages of the process to help us check the texture required etc. Zenia regularly came round the table to check on how we were getting on and help us individually. We all created amazing owls. I would definitely do another of Zenia's classes!
Was really impressed by the one day course in Cambridge where we all made a needle felted barn owl on a log. I think it was one of Zenia's first improvers classes and I learnt some great new techniques that I couldn't have picked up at home. I'd really recommend her improvers class to anyone looking to improve and build on their basic skills. Was a really lovely day and well worth every penny. Thank you Zenia! :)
I went to an 'improvers' workshop with Zenia/The Lady Moth to create a Barn Owl. I had seen the pictures of the owl online and just knew I had to try to make it! I am new to needle felting and so had started with an afternoon course with Zenia- I made a Robin and left her class feeling full of confidence. Zenia's teaching style is very relaxed-the pace is perfectly pitched and individual help is provided when needed.
The owl workshop was 10am-4pm in a lovely bright room with delicious lunch provided. The other felters on the course were great company and with Zenia's careful instruction everyone made a fantastic owl. They were all completely unique and the experience was enriched by the atmosphere Zenia created where we all worked together. I am not a creative or crafty person but Zenia's clever designs and wonderful teaching made me feel I could take on any project! There were lots of tips and techniques which I found really helpful.
Anyone wanting to learn to felt or to improve their skills could not find a better teacher than Zenia- she's amazing! I can't wait to do another class with her in 2020.
I attended the improvers owl making workshop with Zenia. All I can say is wow! We were made to feel welcome from the very start and given all the resources needed. There was even a little bonus if you used your own needles.
The tuition was pitch just right. We were encouraged to ask for help if needed but were also left to carry on when happy to do so. The step by step instructions were timed to perfection and no pressure was placed on us to all be at the same stage at the same time. We were also given licence to be creative which meant that although we all followed the same instructions all the owls were unique.
The other ladies in the group were fun, supportive and just a great bunch of personalities.
What’s more to be said than I will definitely be doing more courses with Zenia, and highly recommend that others do to.
I booked a full day ‘Improvers’ group workshop with Zenia on 7/12/2019 & we made an owl.
Booking was straight forward & full details of the venue & course arrangements were sent in good time.
All the necessary materials & equipment were provided & were of the highest quality.
Zenia’s instructions & demonstrations were all clearly explained, with lots of encouragement & ‘hands-on’ guidance as required. She is a patient & observant teacher & all the owls were superb - a credit to Zenia’s excellent tuition.
Drinks, snacks & a lovely lunch were all included, dietary needs catered for & the venue was spacious & had good light - perfect for needlefelting. The parking was an added bonus, especially in Cambridge!
I have no hesitation in recommending Zenia’s workshops & I have every confidence that you will enjoy yourself as much as I did.
I have attended several of Zenia’s workshops, but this was my first full-day one as well as my first workshop at improvers’ level. As always, Zenia was wonderfully kind and helpful. She also structured the day so that from the outset it was obvious that we would all finish on time without rush. The project (a barn owl) was fascinating in itself, and I was so pleased with the result. I never imagined I would be able to produce such a lovely object. The catering during the day was excellent, and the venue was great too.
Booked a private, two-on-one workshop as a birthday present. Zenia was incredibly helpful and went out of her way during the booking process.
The session was really fun and Zenia was very good at teaching complete novices. I feel like I've come away with a new skill and the most adorable baby penguin.
Zenia also remembered from the booking that it was a birthday present and added some lovely personal touches which made the workshop feel really special.
I would highly recommend needle felting with The Lady Moth to anyone interested in a craft course.
What a nice person and what an excellent teacher, thank you Zenia. I have done a number of sessions and really enjoyed them all. Even as a total beginner kind and patient help meant I was able to be really pleased with my first attempt at a little fox.
I have admired Zenia's work ever since I started felting nearly four years ago and have always wanted to do one of her workshops.
I enrolled on an Owl Workshop and I wasn't disappointed.
Her teaching methods were easy to follow and her knowledge of felting is vast.
It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and we were all able to produce beautiful felted owls. One lady was a complete novice yet she still took away a lovely owl she could be proud of.
I would have no hesitation in recommending her classes to anyone wishing to learn or progress in needle felting.
I have travelled 2 hours by car to do so and I was not disappointed.
Zenia is an excellent tutor. Everyone on the course enjoyed it and we all finished our items in the course time. Lovely venue and the benefit of parking on site in Cambridge is great. Looking forward to the next course.
Great friendly and warm welcome.
Small class size so good for students to get to know each other and share progress throughout class.
Competent, patient, and encouraging tutor.
I felt feeling satisfied and confident in the knowledge I gained.
Also the venue has off street parking which is amazing in town.
I attended Zenia’s bunny making course yesterday. There were 5 of us, lovely friendly atmosphere with refreshments. Xenia demonstrated each part of the process with very clear instructions, and we also had pre-made models to look at. Xenia is a very patient teacher and guided us through the whole process. We all took home cute little bunnies and I am very proud of mine. I would highly recommend The Lady Moth’s workshops, it was great fun and you will come out with a great sense of achievement. Definitely want to do more.
I attended the felting class and made a goldfinch on the 2nd June. It was an absolutely lovely time, the afternoon flew by and I was really impressed at how Zenia guided everyone to make their own fantastic birds.
I was a complete beginner, and really impressed by the quality of teaching. Will definitely be back!
I attended the duckling course 12th May. I must say it was one of the best afternoon's I have spent. Zenia is a very patient teacher, with clear and precise instructions. I have signed up for two more courses. Is this my new hobby? I think so, with the help of Zenia.
Fantastic afternoon, I have learnt so much today. My Easter Bunny is very sweet. My 1st Rabbit. Zenia is a very calm, patient and talented teacher. It was a pleasure to meet her and the rest of the group. I am looking forward to my next workshop with Zenia. Thank you.
I attended the robin wreath workshop with a friend. It was a wonderful day. Zenia is the most amazing teacher who was patient and kind to everyone. We all worked at different speeds but we were all encouraged and praised. It was a great experience and I will be attending another one for sure xxx
I thoroughly enjoyed the owl workshop. The atmosphere was friendly and supportive. Following Żenia’s excellent and patient tuition we all went home with a felted owl that we could be proud of. I highly recommend the workshops and will be booking another one.
Needle felting was something I have always wanted to learn. The course was perfect, exactly the right number of people and the tuition easy to follow. ‘The Moth Lady’ was patient and informative and I was delighted to take my owl home at the end and feel such a sense of achievement. It was like friends getting together to craft. I highly recommend doing a course with her.
I visited The Lady Moth yesterday for a one to one session learning now to make a needle
Felted bluetit. Having done only a tiny bit of this before I was pretty much a beginner but I absolutely loved it!! Zenia took time to show me each step properly, building up the little bird a bit at a time. She was friendly and welcoming and made me feel completely at ease. I’ve definitley caught the felting bug and will certainly be back for more! And I love my new little addition to the house :) Thoroughly recommended!
Żenia is a wonderful teacher and the course was brilliant. The venue was well suited m, with space for everyone to work as well as great food.
We all made our felted robin following Żenia’s instructions and demonstration and she supported us each individually answering questions and giving tips.
I will certainly be booking to attend another class and will enjoy practising at home with the penguin kit I bought. 😀
I attended the needle felted robin and wreath workshop with my grown up daughter. The Polish Club venue was lovely (soothing Christmas music and a delicious cold buffet lunch). Zenia explained everything patiently and thoroughly and we all ended up with beautiful robins and even had time to decorate the wreaths with some foliage and berries. It was a whole day workshop but the time passed so quickly and it was so relaxing and we were actually thrilled with the finished articles. I have attended one of Zenia's workshops before (made a bunny). She is very artistic, is a natural teacher and she gives excellent tips on making the finished article as beautiful as possible.
I attended the wreath robin workshop. We travelled from stoke on trent to do the workshop, staying in Sandy Beds the night before. Took us about 40 mins to get there. The first full day workshop that Zena had put on. Course included lunch which was really nice. It was a good venue for the workshop. Everything required for the course, excellent tuition and everybody came away with a completed project. A lot of patience displayed during the workshop as some people were not confident at all. If I lived closer I would definitely attend further workshops. I love the pieces displayed and would encourage more kits or instructions to purchase. Thankyou for an excellent workshop.
I was lucky enough to attend the pumpkin making needle-felting course with my mum and sister - what a simply perfect way to spend three hours on a Saturday!!!! We were all new to this craft and it was a delight to learn from Zenia, she was patient and attentive, offering help when we needed it and being encouraging as we found our ‘groove’ with needle-felting. We came away with a love for a new craft and well equipped with various wool and tools so we could continue at home as we enjoyed what we had done so much.
Our workshop was at Sew, Knit, Craft and the room was cosy but ideal for our size group and it was lovely to be surrounded by such craft-loveliness in the form of beautiful fabrics and other craft bits and pieces.
We would definitely go back and we would all highly recommend this workshop to anyone considering giving it a try. Thank you Zenia!!!
I attended Zenia's Felting Course to make a fox. Zenia is an extremely patient, and very kind tutor and the six of us who were in the class were all able to complete a felted fox in one afternoon. Zenia is generous with her time and, having done a little felting previously, I found it particularly helpful to pick her brains for advice about different wools and techniques. I learned a lot and would recommend a felting course with Zenia to anyone who is interested in felting. The course was taught in such a way that all levels of ability were taken into account and absolute beginners would enjoy it as much as a more experienced felter. Tea was provided half way through the afternoon and it was an extremely pleasant way to spend a Sunday! Thanks Zenia!
My Mum, sister and I attended one of Zenia's workshops at the weekend and I cannot recommend her enough! She is an enthusiastic yet patient teacher who encouraged us to get creative when we wanted to try something a bit different. We all came away very proud of what we had achieved in the 3 hours (which absolutely flew by!) and keen to carry on needle felting at home. I think we will all try to attend further workshops in the future.
I can highly recommend The Lady Moth workshops. Zenia is an excellent teacher, who makes you feel welcome and gives you lots of confidence to achieve your goal. I am a total beginner and was very impressed with what I achieved to make in the three hour workshops, (a rabbit and a robin that actually looked like they were supposed to). I am now looking forward to my next one.
The recent owl workshop was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Although it was the third I have attended (and hopefully not the last!) there is always something new to learn. Zenia is a very talented artist and her work is really inspiring. She is a natural teacher, always striving to help us achieve good results. The sessions are friendly and relaxed and time just flies by. Try one - you won't be disappointed!
My friend and I attended the owl workshop on Sunday. Absolutely loved it, this is the second workshop I have attended and it won't be the last. Thank you Zenia for making it so easy to follow and enjoyable.
Fabulous afternoon making felt owls. Zenia is so good at putting you at your ease. Most attendees were absolute beginners and yet we all finished the afternoon with a wonderful little owl.
Zenia gives clear instructions that are easy to follow. Time flew by. I would really recommend this course.
I attended the Easter Bunny class together with my (grown-up) daughter. Neither of us had ever done any needle-felting before, but we loved it. Zenia is a delight and explains everything so well and is always ready to help with any difficulties. It was rather lovely to sit in the cosy Polish library surrounded by books, felting away with a very friendly group of people, and a huge cup of tea and biscuits. We were very pleased with our finished bunnies, and had a very relaxing, enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
My first time trying needle felting and absolutely loved it. Zenia is an excellent teacher and made it seem so easy. Love the small group as everyone received the attention if needed. Looking forward to doing more courses.
This was my first attempt at needle felting. I have done a tiny amount of wet felting previously. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon making a duckling. Zenia is a very patient and creative teacher. My duckling now takes price of place on a glass shelf in my kitchen - there is space on that shelf for the items I hope to make with Zenia in the future.
My first ever needle felting workshop could not have been better. Zenia is not only a very impressive and inspirational artist but also a tremendous and patient teacher. She generously shares her talents and works hard to ensure everyone gets satisfying results. Zenia carefully explained and demonstrated all the steps involved in making a really cute duckling and. She made the afternoon very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon. This was my first experience of needle felting and Zenia made me feel very welcome. The afternoon of making bunnies flew by. Zenia was great at explaining what to do and was very helpful and patient.
I spent a brilliant Sunday afternoon in a small group of seven beginners making a little robin. I had never needle felted before but found it easy to do with Zenia's clear step by step instructions and demonstrations. She is patient, kind, enthusiastic and very helpful especially with the tricky bits. I couldn't believe how fast the 3.5 hours passed. I absolutely love my robin and can't wait to make a few more before Christmas. I enjoyed the tea, mince pies and biscuits but was so hooked on my needle felting I could hardly stop for them! I would thoroughly recommend this course and will definitely be booking another with Zenia in the spring.
Such an excellent afternoon. I loved making a little robin, which had been much admired. The pace was perfect, allowing all of us to keep up. Zenia was clear in her explanations and patient and helpful with us. I would love to do another course with her. Highly recommended.
I spent a fascinating afternoon last Sunday learning about the range of wools to use and the technique of how to build up the structure of a robin. It was totally addictive and the time flew by. Zania is a very patient, knowledgeable and charismatic teacher. I would thoroughly recommend this course to any budding felter.
Brilliant afternoon. The pace, structure and step by step demonstration of the session were spot on. Group size was small with lots of personal time. Zenia is a lovely, very knowledgable instructor whose enthusiasm is infectious!
Would highly recommend the session. I was very happy with my robin and went home and was immediately able to make another.
Thank you for a great course. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I had never needle felted before and it seemed amazing to me to see how the wool bonded together and I am thrilled with my robin. Lovely venue and group size. Great teaching. Highly recommend😊
I had never needle felted before but was really hooked by the end of the afternoon. Zenia is very kind and patient; she helps and guides in a way that is easy to understand. I would recommend this course.
What a fascinating afternoon, I was amazed at how the shapeless mass of wool became a cute little round robin. The feeling of the shape forming under my fingers was very good, I shall definitely do some more.
Zenia explained the processes very clearly and was most patient.
I had the pleasure of taking the needle felt robin course. It was fantastic. A really good way to spend an afternoon. The instructions were clear and it was easy to follow. Zenia is a great teacher, she really explains everything well and is on hand to help with he tricky bits. It's very satisfying to see your robin come together and I can't wait to try more. I can thoroughly recommend this course.
I was very impressed by the course and learned a great deal. I found it easy and fun to follow and was very happy with my little blue tit. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in felting, both beginners and those wishing to improve.
Thank you for an enjoyable afternoon Zenia.
I attended this needle felting workshop today (28th May) with no experience whatsoever. There were seven of us altogether and we all finished up with a cute little blue tit in under the four hours Zenia allows for the course. The atmosphere was light-hearted and fun, the company good and the biscuits moreish! She is a very good teacher who demonstrated the process clearly and helped us to achieve birds we were all happy with. Just what you need for a relaxed Sunday afternoon. I was so enthused I have bought a robin kit to make at home. Well worth doing!
I attended a class yesterday to make a blue tit, and had a wonderful time! Żenia was a great teacher, and it was a nice class atmosphere with 6 students around a communal table. The class was 4 hours (including a break for tea and biscuits), which went by quickly but gave us enough time to all complete our birds. I had needle felted a couple of times before using basic kits, but it made a big difference to have a teacher explaining the process (particularly things like making the initial shape and the finishes), and I think the bird I made looks a lot better than the previous projects I had made. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone!
I attended the blue tit workshop yesterday (March 26th 2017) and absolutely loved it! The teacher was lovely and patient and demonstrated and instructed very clearly and managed to cater for everyone's pace. This was the second time I'd done any needle felting and I was really pleased with the outcome, everyone's birds looked great at the end! I would highly recommend and would definitely go again.
I attended the felting class to make the Blue Tit on 26 March 2017. This is the first time I've done needle felting - it was a lot of fun! The set-up was very personal around a small table with teas and biscuits but all the equipment were there. Zenia is a great teacher and within a day all those attending were able to complete quite a complicated felting piece while coming in at practically zero experience. It was a very therapeutic and friendly atmosphere - four hours just flew by.
I completed the Needle felting Robin course before Christmas. I have done wet felting before but not needle felted much and I learnt so much from this course. Everyone was friendly and really helpful and I loved the course, the time flew past.
I highly recommend it, you will be hooked!
