This exciting course will appeal to anyone who is interested in exploring the diversity, energy and language of mark making through creative brush making.

Using found, unusual and meaningful materials to create your own set of beautiful handmade brushes and tools to work with you will spend the day with Suzi who will take you on a journey of discovery, recording your first marks on what will become your own paper scroll.

Explore how mark making can help unlock your potential and be used as the basis of creating artworks inspired by your surroundings.

No experience is necessary as this is the perfect free and loose introduction to using ink and paints without the constraints of a traditional approach.

Suzi Lowe grew up by the sea in Bournemouth, relocating to Brighton after studying Fashion and Textiles at Brighton University. After a 20-year career in printed textile later moving into painting as her chosen field.

Working in mixed media, across multiple surfaces Suzi enjoys experimental marks, delighting in colour and letting the qualities of materials lead her onward.

​As an experienced University tutor, Suzi has taught at University level and is passionate about making creativity accessible to all.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Refreshments will be available during the class. A delicious lunch will be served supplied by one of our neighbouring independent businesses. You will be contacted ahead of the course date with menu options.

You will need to bring a range of found objects or possibly meaningful items to turn into your own paintbrushes. Think outside of the box for brush handles and heads and consider how texture and the form of these items could translate to your work on the day. There will also be threads, beads, ribbons, string, fabric strips and many natural items to work with provided.

All other materials are provided by Atelier Beside the Sea.
