About the Course
Our Leather Craft Workshop Days are designed to be all about You…. getting hands on and making your very own Clutch Bag or small tablet device case/sleeve (iPad etc). Not suitable for laptops, being too thick and large.
Having worked in the industry for over ten years.... Our workshop classes are brand new to London and started November 2017 and are all geared for people with some or no experience of working with, and Saddle Stitching vegetable tanned leathers of various thicknesses depending on the course you choose, with classes kept to a maximum of 3 people.
This workshop course is also a great introduction if you've already starting out and working with leathers or fabrics and want to know more about working with and scaling up, or combining leather with your materials, bags etc.
You can book your Workshop day on our website. We also have Gift Certificates you can purchase on our web shop page.
We also provide you with an info pack giving details on where you can buy your own Leathers, tools and hardware (in and outside of London) if you wished to take your new skills forward at your own pace.
You’ll be fully guided throughout your session by our commercial Leathersmith, Richard Williamson the founder of RW Works. You'll be shown all about the various traditional leather working hand tools you’ll be using and encouraged to first practice using the various hand tools on off-cuts of leather to build your familiarity and confidence.
There is nothing better than the feeling of making your very own leather goods that you’ll love to use and last you for decades, ageing uniquely over the years.
You’ll be shown how to cut, mark and chisel your stitching holes, burnish your edges, set any hardware, wax your thread, and finally hand stitch your item using a traditional Saddle Stitch for strength, one length of thread with a needle at each end.
Don’t worry at all if you’re unfamiliar with any of the above as you’ll be given demo’s of each stage and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you’ll pick it up.
We look forward to seeing you on the day and if you can arrive 5 minutes prior to your course start time, that’d be perfect.
Parking is free in the surrounding roads and nearest public transport is Hanwell Railway Station, or Ealing Broadway and Boston Manor Tube Stations.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone. Richard is a phenomenal teacher, he is very knowledgeable, kind and patient. He shows you each step as you go along and then you practice each step before you perform it on your actual clutch. Not only did I learn how to make a clutch bag, I learnt a lot about the different types of leather and where to buy leather and tools in London. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a fun and informative day out.

Big thanks to Richard for such a great workshop! I really left feeling I had learnt an age old craft and now I can make my own hand stitched leather accessories. I learnt about the different leathers, where I can buy everything I need to start making accessories and top of the list was learning the whole making process from start to finish! I am using the gorgeous card wallet/coin purse I made and already have people asking me where I bought it from. I take great pride in telling them that I made it. :-)
Thanks Richard, I hope to book the clutch bag workshop soon.

The course was informative and practical. I left with enough information to feel confident enough to reproduce what I made with Richard, on my own. Everything you need is provided for and in my opinion the course would be suitable for anyone, regardless of your experience/inexperience working with leather.
Rebecca - - #13415
This was a brilliant class. Richard explained everything really well and there were a lot of options (type of bag/type and colour of leather/fittings, etc) so that I could make precisely what I wanted. I'd definitely recommend!

Richard Williamson is a master of his craft, considerate and thorough as a teacher with assured encouragement and patience, allowing one to feel creative and dextrous on top of which you come away with a piece of leatherwork that is and feels natural and just right, embodying a sense of longevity. I have to say I have fulfilled a dream and sated my passion in one day and can look at my work and feel truly proud and accomplished. I would recommend anyone to spend a day with Richard and fashion their dream. This is a marvellous course.

I had a fabulous time doing the leather workshop. I found the facts about leather really interesting and I learnt a lot. I had great fun making my card holder/wallet and with Richard's excellent guidance and patience I ended up with a beautiful and durable card holder which I am very proud of.
I am not a creative or artistic person so I had my doubts as to whether I was going to be able to make anything worth keeping but the instructions were very clear, the tools to complete the products were all there and explained to us so I had no difficulties making my card holder/wallet.
I can recommend this course to anyone regardless of their level.
I can't wait to do another course.

Richard gave clear and succinct instructions and demonstrations at every juncture in the making of the project. With his help I transformed a piece of raw leather into a useful and very professional looking iPad device case.
I’d highly recommend this course.
John Nixon - - #11607
I made a pouch on my very first leather workshop.
I didn’t think it’s possible, but Richard explained step by step and showed me how to make it.
I love what I made, and people compliment me on it all the time.
