About the Course

Please let us know if you are interested.

Guitar maker Nick Tinklin , will be offering a series of evening sessions, 7pm to 9pm in our workshop. This will give you the opportunity to create a bespoke guitar, perhaps not totally complete in the 12 sessions but well on the way, and will give you sufficient techniques and experience to finish your instrument in your own time.

The cost will be £10 per week, giving a total cost exclusive of materials for the 12 sessions of £120. We require a deposit of £60 initially.

Nick estimates the total cost of materials would be in the region of £500 per instrument, but this could be spread over several months as the build progresses. Starting with the soundboard the cost is likely to be in the region of £50 initially

These sessions whilst giving you a good incite into guitar construction will not produce a fully finished instrument in a 12 week course. However you will be welcome to continue working on the instrument at our workshop and we are open Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm the cost is £5 per day.

The Dukeries Community Centre is a charitable organisation, established in 1988, offering a range of craft workshops. We also offer regular drop in workshop sessions in which you can complete your own project with tools, machinery and guidance on hand. Close to Mansfield, Retford, Worksop and Newark, we also welcome students from Lincoln, Nottingham and Sheffield. The community centre is in the grounds of the Dukeries Academy, which also hosts a gym, a public library, adult education centre, fire training centre, a centre for people with disabilities and a riding centre... so there is plenty to see and visit!

If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

We provide a well lit, warm workshop with plenty of space, good parking, and an experienced tutor, all tools and equipment, tea and coffee is available, there are many local takeaways and cafes.

Any materials you require can be supplied at cost and as needed during construction. It is estimated that the total cost of materials for a bespoke guitar would be in the region of £500.

Although it is not expected that you would produce a guitar in the 12 x sessions, you would receive sufficient instruction and techniques to be able to complete your project at home or continue in our workshop.
