Make a cheese board – beginners woodworking workshop

Enjoy an evening in our workshop making a beautiful cheese board you can bring out at the next dinner party and say “I made that!” Suitable for beginners, our three-hour course will guide you through the process of making your own cheese board, chopping board or serving platter from a 'blank' of the finest quality solid hardwood. Jonty, your friendly instructor, will show you how to transform it into a truly beautiful and food safe cheese board using a range of tools and processes in just three hours. THE COURSE: You will begin the evening by being shown a demonstration of how to use some wonderful hand tools you'll have access to in your own special tool kit for the evening. This will include a variety of saws, a spoke shave, block plane and various other sanding and finishing tools. You can choose to drill a hole for a handle, cut a special shape in the side or decide to simply make as you go and work the wood until you have the shape you are after. We will give you full instruction for the whole evening and you'll learn how to use a variety of hand tools which will be useful for the rest of your life. And that’s not all. You will also learn how to expertly sand and apply a natural, food-safe finish to the cheese board to ensure it will be quality enough to adorn the table at even the most sophisticated cheese night! You will finish the evening very relaxed and super proud of yourself with a potential new hobby that you’re sure to love as much as we do. Now that’s better than a night in front of the box, surely?
