Vegetable Tan leather
Vegetable tan is a process of primarily using the yellowish and brownish organic substance present in oak and spruce bark and plant tissues. Used to conserve collagen, (the skins main structural protein), this process of preservation prevents the breakdown and decomposition of the collagen.
In addition to this preservation, vegetable tanning gives the leather a great plasticity and strength, with time the leather develops its own unique patina ageing beautifully. Vegetable-tanned leathers are biodegradable and are regarded as one of the most environmentally friendly processes, this is also one of the oldest methods of tanning, dating back thousands of years, which is still in practice today.
