Learn to saddle stitch

An example of the type of purse you could make on the course.

Join me and learn how to saddle stitch in a beautiful rural location with lovely home cooked food prepared by my in house chef, and you get to meet fellow enthusiasts?

Saddle stitch is a traditional way of hand sewing leather. Executed properly it is beautiful to see. During the course you will have the opportunity to hand sew a couple of items, as well as learn some simple leatherwork techniques that can easily be applied to other projects.

This course is aimed at beginners and those with more experience are welcome.
We introduce you to leather and to the saddle stitch technique. You will have the opportunity to practice saddle stitch before starting your projects.

We will cover:
The types of leather available and the tanning process
What to look for when purchasing leather
How to create patterns for small leather goods, for example purses and card wallets, and how to take the thickness of the leather into consideration.
How to prepare your leather.
How to transfer your design.
How to cut your leather and check your pattern.
How to mark and prepare your leather for saddle stitch.
How to insert your hardware
How to finish your design after your stitching is completed.
You will receive a set of course notes to accompany the day.

There will be a couple of designs available on the day. We will be able to make some small adjustments to the pattern, mostly in terms of size and hardware.

The focus of the day is stitching.

The materials are included in the course fee. Elizabeth will be in touch after purchase to ask a few questions to help her ensure she tailors the day to cover your questions and what you would like to learn.

By the end of the day you will leave with your finished products and knowing how you can apply your new knowledge to your own projects in the future.
You will need to have a few breaks during the day and to stand up and move about. The timing and length of the breaks can be tweaked so we can carry on stitching.
