Kiln fired Glass painting Day by Le Breton Traditional

X

Description

This studio session taught by experienced Glass Artist Matthew Le Breton is focused on the ages old skills of kiln fired glass painting, enamelling and silver staining that can be used on any kind of design, new or old. This wonderful art form is a mix of artistic skill, copyist working and methodical approach, developing an understanding of the different processes. This course will suit anyone who wants to develop their understanding of traditional glass decorating in a friendly studio environment. This isnt a course to learn cutting and leading skills. Although glass cutting will be referenced, the teaching on this course is all about the paint! Beginners are welcome as well as those who already have experience of working with glass. (If you specifically want to develop your glass cutting/leading skills then it might be best to attend one of my one day stained glass courses or private classes, see my other listings). Areas this session will cover - Design considerations and styles Vitreous type glass paint Coloured enamels Silver and copper stain Firing schedules Different brush effects and approaches such as badgering and stippling The different carrier mediums, water, oil, vinegar, mono proplyene. Layering of paint to achieve depth and shading. The firings will be done using super fast gas kilns (full cycle in just 30mins!) so you can take your fired pieces away with you at the end of the session or arrange to return for a follow up session as required. The session can be tailored to individual interests so if you have a specific thing you want to explore that can be discussed and agreed beforehand. The teaching takes place in a workshop environment so please dress warmly in the winter months and wear good shoes. You will need to bring a packed lunch.

I work as a teacher and artisan both in stained glass and traditional buiding techniques. After a Fine Art degree I first started stained glass myself in 2002 as an evening class and never looked back. I have a passion for traditional crafts and I enjoy being able to bring enthusiam and energy to teaching others. The glass courses I run at our purpose built applied arts workshop are designed to give students the chance to develop their own ideas and it is amazing what gets produced.
