iPhone photography workshop: How to take beautiful photos on your iPhone

A half-day workshop of practical tuition: Learn how to use the camera on your iPhone to take beautiful photographs. There will be a maximum of two participants per workshop which means that you get the most out of the workshop and it can be tailored to specific areas of interest to you wherever possible. We will use collected and found objects to take creative still life and table-top photographs in my studio, examples of which can be seen above and on my website. What the workshop will cover: • several hands-on sessions for you to set up and take your own photographs • demonstrations of techniques • some basic rules for composition and framing • simple edits on your phone that will enhance your photos after taking them • effects and filters that can transform your photos • hints, tips and advice to improve your photography. Important: What you’ll need to bring with you: Your iPhone with enough charge to last the length of the workshop. To get the most out of the workshop your phone needs to be pre-loaded with the following apps: • Snapseed (free to download) – used for editing photos on your device • Hipstamatic Classic (£2.49) – a photo app that allows pre-visualised styles to be applied to the image. Please note: Android devices – I use an iPhone and so am not familiar with Android devices. If you are a competent Android phone user then this iPhone photography workshop may still be of benefit as many of the photographic principles are the same. However, we will be using the Hipstamatic app for taking most of the images on the workshop and this is only available for the iPhone. An iPhone is available to borrow for the practical elements of the workshop if required, allowing you to try out the Hipstamatic app. ---- I am one of four resident working artists at Yew Trees Artist Studios on the Bevere Gallery site. You can see artwork being made and chat with us in our work spaces. Bevere Gallery has a ceramics gallery and print room which show the work of both nationally renowned and local artists; stunning collections of ceramics and original artwork including paintings and prints, jewellery, sculpture and garden art. A popular takeout café provides lunchtime snacks, homemade cake and hot drinks. There is plenty of covered outdoor seating in the café courtyard garden and around the site, with views over beautiful open countryside. ----

What's included in the price?

• a small mounted print of one of your photos taken during the workshop to take home and frame • a handout summarising the main points covered – this will be available to take away • any equipment and props needed as part of the workshop • refreshments!

I’m a Worcester based artist and photographer. I work from a studio space at Bevere Gallery on the outskirts of Worcester. My studio is open for visitors to see where and how I work, and to view both works in progress and completed artwork. My work is driven by shape and form. The composition and aesthetic of the work — along with pattern, rhythm and texture — is key, regardless of the medium in which it is made. Photography is my first love but I also make work across other media.
