Covid19 update: offering over 100+ courses in Cumbria & the Lakes, we hope to resume all 'in person' courses in late July 2020. During lock down, we've upgraded a listed barn into a beautiful spacious workshop studio, enabling courses to take place with 2m distancing, hand washing and two staircases. It's possible usual catered lunches may not be included for summer courses, depending on circumstances at the time.
About the workshop:
Our introduction to silver clay days are 'Inspired by Nature' and run by Jo Dix. Jo runs her own Silver jewellery business called Silver Forge in the South Lakes. There's a lot of freedom is forming jewellery from Silver Clay and so there is less emphasis on the traditional jewellery making skills. Being made of silver particles the material is not cheap by any means and sometimes commands a higher price than mined silver.
What is Silver Clay / Art Clay?
Silver Clay is part of the metal clay family. It's great for all skill levels and fires as Fine Silver (99.9% pure), which is a higher quality that the jewellery "norm" of Sterling Silver (92.5%).
Silver clay is a fabulous medium for making just about anything – from the simplest piece to the most organic and intricate patterns. Jo will teach you the basics of how to get the best from your silver clay and guide you through designing & making your own piece of fine silver jewellery. It is the versatility of silver clay that makes it so popular and accessible to create pieces without the need for intricate techniques or tools.
You can knead it, roll it, beat it, stretch it, texture it, fold it or anything else really. You can even colour it, we're told.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Materials are charged extra for this day - a typical example could be anything from £20 to £45 or more depending on how much is made during the day.

We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ for today. We all three enjoyed the workshop and are all amazed at producing wearable items!! Also, could pass on our thanks to whoever cooked and prepared the food, it was lovely.
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Silver Clay day on 8th June. Jo the tutor was excellent, offering the right amount of guidance and help throughout the day and I'm thrilled with the pendant I made.
Also the food was brilliant and a wonderful addition to a great day.
I would certainly recommend you to others and will look out for the new dates for maybe more silver clay....maybe a class for those who have already done one, or for the silver jewellery course.
Fabulous day - excellent tutor (and my mum). Very relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Thank you for feeding us too. Food was to die for. Lovely to spend quality time with my mum - will definitely recommend to others !
Thanks for a great day. The course was great but also the setting, lunch and gardens were equally enjoyable and all contributed to the lovely experience of the day. Thank you. I shall definitely return for another course and recommend you to fellow crafters
