Description

On this course we will be focusing on axe skills and how axes are used in the context of bushcraft and green woodworking. First participants will learn how to use the axe to split and process wood for fire lighting. We will cover wood selection, axe safety and splitting techniques. After lunch we will be taking a closer look at carving axes and how they are used to craft tools and other useful items in the field. Participants will create their own mallet and wooden wedge, two essential wooden tools to accompany the axe for a wide range of tasks. To finish off the day we will have a go at splitting a large log into sections for craft products using the freshly carved mallets and wedges. This course will be held under a shelter but please come dressed for the weather as we will be outdoors for the whole day. No previous experience required.
