Course Start Dates

Due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19/Coronavirus, please contact the course organiser before finalising plans to attend this course.

Course dates are flexible; please get in touch for the next available date.

About the Course

Using a beginner level kit you will learn how to stitch felt padding, couch Japanese threads, stitch pearl purl and check threads in the form of chipping. You have the option of choosing a silver plated kit with blue fabric or a gilt kit with red fabric.

Whilst the aim is to complete the embroidery on the day it will depend on your previous embroidery experience and speed, however you will be shown all the techniques needed to finish the project in your own time and provided with full instructions with photographs.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

Silver plated or gilt kit (worth £30!)

5.5 hours of tuition (half hour break for lunch)

Tea/Coffee (please note that lunch is not provided*)

Recommended optional xxtras:

Mellor £10 extra

Available to borrow on the day or bring your own:

Embroidery and goldwork scissors (These should be separate from your usual embroidery scissors as metal threads will blunt them)

6 or 8 inch ring with either seat, clamp or floor stand (Please let me know if you would like to borrow one).

Velvet covered board/beading mat/felt covered board

I also have one magnifying glass

*Lunch Break

At a convenient time, to be decided on the day, we will break for 30 mins so you can eat your own packed lunch. All work should be covered up during this time, however should any student wish to continue with their embroidery that is perfectly fine, but I would then ask any students to take their lunch outside (weather dependent) to avoid the risk of spillage. It is always good practice to make sure that no food is consumed when embroidery is being worked, especially goldwork as it cannot be washed.
