About the Course

This full-on one day practical course will give beginners and improvers a fantastic insight into bowl turning with beautiful lines and form and go home with a wonderfully formed and finished bowl at the end of it. Course runs 9am till 4-4.30pm monthly, usually on Fridays or weekends.

The day starts at 9am in the on-site coffee shop for a meet and greet as well as an overview of the day…not to mention coffee. From there, we will go down to the workshop. A demonstration of the techniques you will learn will start the practicalities and then it will be over to you. Your tutor will always be on hand to answer questions and guide you through the techniques.

You will learn the techniques of good tool presentation, the basics of sharpening, shaping a bowl using natural curves as well and after lunch, you'll learn how to finish your bowl flawlessly. And then, by the time the course ends at about 4:30pm, you will have a piece of work to be proud of.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Want to review this course?

Martin is very patient and excellent at explaining, not just how to use the tools / place your body, move, etc. but also why doing things a certain way is preferred and what effect it has on the piece. Martin explained what to look for when choosing a blank and how to choose which side of the blank to use for the face, etc. I learnt much more than just how to turn a bowl… I learnt about workshop safety and design of the piece amongst many other things, like choosing the right size drill bit for a screw chuck. Great value for money and highly recommended. I shall be back for the colouring workshop once I’ve perfected the skills learnt today. It was a great day, and thank you for your patience.
