'Needle Felt a Wren' with Helen Hammond a 'Quirky Workshop' at Greystoke Craft Garden & Barns near Penrith and Ullswater

a Quirky Workshop at Greystoke Craft Garden, nr. Lake District & Eden Valley in Cumbria

Spend a lovely day being guided through how to make this beautifully detailed Wren using the needle felting process. Your Wren will have a slightly sculpted low relief appearance, subtly enhancing the natural features of this little characterful bird.

You will be using a variety of natural wool fibres and Helen will teach you all about needle felting and how to blend your fibre colours. You will be using specialist needle felting needles (not sewing needles) for this purpose. These specialist tools/ needles are designed to entangle, compact, control and shape the soft carded wool fibres into firm felted pieces. It is a slow and very therapeutic process.

All reference images will be provided and will form an important part of your working process. This course is suitable for all abilities including beginners. This is a dry felted process and a 'clean' method of working. No aprons or gloves are required. However, please bring plasters!

Covid19 update: offering over 100+ courses in Cumbria & the Lakes, we have to resumed all 'in person' courses. Thankyou for your very kind review! I was delighted with both the lovely teaching space and facilities . The catering was perfect all day as was the company. Covid issues were in place and comfortable for us all to work together in as near normal conditions as pre pandemic times. I was delighted to be invited to run the workshop at Quirky Workshops.

Response from Quirky Workshops at Greystoke Craft Garden and Barns:

Thank you Helen for an excellent course!

I attended the workshop this week and have nothing but praise for it.
The venue - Swallow barn at Quirky Crafts - was delightful and in spite of the freezing weather was kept warm. Helped also by the delicious refreshments, we were fuelled inside and out.
Having only dabbled with needle felting before, this was an ambitious make in a day, BUT teacher Helen Hammond had all the stages worked out and gave us all the instruction and confidence that we needed to complete it - and we did. Each wren a masterpiece and delightfully different. A superb course.

Response from Quirky Workshops at Greystoke Craft Garden and Barns:

Thank you so much for this lovely review Helen and am so glad you enjoyed the day. I agree it was an excellent course!

Everyone's piece was brilliant, with the gorgeous wrens enjoying such attention to detail thanks to Helen, who was very organised with her teaching stages and materials. A lot of work had been put into the prep for the course and it evidently paid off!

Hopefully see you here another time in Greystoke! x
