This concerns 1:1 tuition for absolute beginners and for people who've made a basket or two. Children as young as 14 can make a basket in a day.You get all the attention you need.
What you make
Examples of what you could make are a small fruit bowl, bread basket, or tray with two handles, just to give you an idea of size. It's a great day to spend with friends, but also really refreshing to share with like-minded people you've not met before.
Basket weaving is very therapeutic, as you are using head, heart and hands, bringing body and mind back in sync. You will be able to completely reground and reconnect with nature.
Is this something for me?
Over the years, people with disabilities, or who were thought to be lesser abled were still able to weave a basket. Not quite sure about your abilities or whether your wrists will manage, then just get in touch and I will assess whether it's for you.
I try to organise the workshops in rural locations, as then we have the full benefits of nature around us to fully reconnect and rewind.
Please contact me for a more tailored experience.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 8 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials, use of tools (if you don't like using your own) and teas, coffees and cakes are included. I ask people to bring lunch. There will be fruit for when we get peckish.

I had a wonderful day learning how to make a basket, Marianne is a very knowledgeable teacher that has a relaxed, helpful and encouraging approach. The venue was also lovely and added to the relaxed atmosphere of the day. I came away feeling proud of my basket and wanting to do it again. I would recommend without hesitation. Thank you Marianne
Response from Crafty Basketry:Thanks very much for your review and recommendation, Hayley! So great to hear that you had a great time, making a basket with your Mum and so nice to see that you've both now signed up for another session together, making another basket but with different techniques this time. I will also bring in some different types of basketry willow for you to get a feel for to show you the different effects you can achieve with them. Look forward to seeing you again soon. Many thanks and best wishes, Marianne
My daughter and I had an absolutely fabulous day with Marianne in the beautiful setting of King Johns Nursery weaving our baskets. We learnt so much through Marianne's careful and considered instruction. She brings a wealth of experience to the course and her passion and enthusiasm are infectious! We both came away with useful and well made baskets which seemed unlikely at the start of the day and we both continue to reflect on the day fondly. Thank you Marianne
Response from Crafty Basketry:What a lovely review you wrote here, Helen! Thank you so much for that! I'm glad my tailored instructions worked for you. However, I won't take credit for the result, as that was down to your interpreting the instructions correctly and following them precisely, hence the fantastic result for a first basket! Well done to both of you, as they look amazing and you were such great students! Would love to teach you some more interesting techniques (I'm thinking perhaps a handle or two next time), so who knows, our paths may cross again. Many thanks and best wishes, Helen. Marianne
