Willow asymmetrical basket course

Working in the beautiful Undercroft room at Worcester Cathedral, you will be using tried and tested weaving techniques and will take home a round-based garden basket with an asymmetrical border, made using Somerset willow and topped with a wooden handle.

I will guide you step by step through the process, teaching you how to: start the basket by making a base, how to add the uprights into the base before weaving the sides and border, and finally adding in a wooden handle. An intensive yet fun day full of learning for beginners, in which you will take home not only this unique looking basket but also the skills to make more in the future.

Further Information:

This basket workshop is aimed at beginners.

This workshop and venue are accessible for wheelchair users.

There will be an hour for lunch and short breaks. Please bring your own lunch, snacks and refreshments. There is a cafe within the Cathedral or nearby Worcester City Centre.

You must be 18 years old or over to attend these courses.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

All tools needed for the day are provided, and the materials for one basket are included in the cost of the workshop.

A fantastic experience, Sarah and Marcus are wonderfully calm and relaxed with endless support when required.
I came away with a beautiful asymetrical basket and felt extremely proud of my achievements. I can thoroughly recommend their courses and Sarah also makes the most beautiful baskets to buy on line.

What a wonderful day! I learnt so much about willow and the skill of basket weaving. Sarah was a kind and generous teacher, with plenty of patience. And we all left with an amazing basket made with our own hands, each unique and beautiful.

Response from Hopewood Baskets:

Hi Kathryn,

I couldn’t be happier that you had a great time, and really so chuffed that you took the time to write such a kind message, it really means so much to us….more than I’m able to convey in words. We just want so much to give everyone a great experience so I’m so pleased you felt that. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you and your basket was amazing, you should be very proud.

Warm wishes,
