About the Course
Our short courses are a lovely way to try your hand at bag making using a machine. When you arrive, there’ll be a paper bag full of goodies waiting for you with all the components for your clutch bag, all cut and ready to be assembled.
No need to bring anything but your lovely selves and a camera for pics.
This course runs from 10.30am-2:30pm (including ½ hour lunch) or 1.30pm-5pm.
You have the choice of either black or tan brown leather for your clutch bag and you can choose gold, silver or antique brass metal components to complete your design. Simply leave a note during the check-out process to let us know which leather you would like to use.
Key skills learned on this course:
• How to prep leather & fabric lining
• How to attach a seam in leather
• How to assemble a zipped clutch
• How to make a tassel and secure into a metal tassel holder
• How to sew & attach a leather wrist handle with a rivet
• How to machine sew with leather
Our classes are very small (max. 5 students per class) so there is plenty of one-to-one tuition. Many of our courses are run in parallel, so you may be making something different to other students on the day. Course dates tend to fill-up fast so if your preferred date is already fully booked we will be in touch to discuss alternative dates that suit you.
All classes will run with a minimum of only 1 person so you can have peace of mind that once you have booked your place you know nothing will change.

You can choose to work with either our domestic (Janome) or industrial sewing machines. We have 3 flat-bed industrial sewing machines and a walking foot cylinder arm sewing machine, they are all fitted with slow speed motors so they are really easy for even a beginner. You are welcome to use either although our aim is for everyone to produce professionally finished bags and so we’d recommend using one of our industrial machines to get the best results.
We will have a half lunch break together and lunch will be provided for you. We will have a selection of bread cheese, ham, and salad. If you have any specific dietary requirements we recommend bringing some lunch. Coffee, tea’s and a few snacks are provided to keep up our energy throughout the day. Please bring some drinking water.
Once we receive your booking and preferred date, we’ll send you an email with driving directions and public transport info. There is free parking on site.
The Rebecca-Jane Sewing School is run by a designer and our courses allow you to explore your ideas and leave with the confidence to continue your design & making journey for a hobby or creative career. We aim to teach you the skills and principles of innovative design and professional making techniques to create long-lasting innovative designs.

Fantastic experience. Great tuition and well planned course, everyone left with a fantastic bag that they had made. Even better was the opportunity to purchase the bag pattern to take home and make more.
Would recommend to anyone.
