Escapism- finding your bubble of creativity

In the fast-paced, ever-changing world we live in, finding moments of tranquillity and escape from the daily grind can seem like a distant dream. Yet, there's a realm where time slows down, worries melt away, and you can exist in your own bubble of creativity: the world of crafting. In April 2022 my partner had a sudden stroke at 38. As you can imagine this shook me to my core and my whole life immediately changed. I'm eternally grateful for my love for crafting, as it is through this love that I've found solace, strength, and a refuge from the chaos.

The power of craft as an escape

Crafting isn't just about creating beautiful objects; it's a way to enter a world where you are in control, where every brushstroke, every bead strung, or every stitch reflects your thoughts and emotions. The process of crafting has provided me with a therapeutic escape, allowing me to disconnect from the thought of hospital trips and my role as full time carer, it's allowed me to immerse myself in the act of creating. It's a form of meditation, a space where I can let my mind wander freely.

How to discover your creative bubble

In a world filled with constant notifications, obligations, and demands, escaping into a creative bubble becomes essential. You will get a profound feeling of being in the present when you find a craft that suits you. Don’t be afraid to try your hand at lots of different crafts, you do not have to become a master right away and making mistakes is all part of the learning process.

The meditative act of crafting

Crafting is inherently meditative. The repetitive motions of knitting, the focus required in intricate painting, or the soothing rhythm of pottery – they all lead to a state of mindfulness that quiets the noise of life's troubles. As I thread each bead when making a necklace or bracelet, I find my mind settling into a state of calm. I have often found parks, beaches or woodlands a perfect place to create, nature inspires me and makes the process all the more meditative.
