Iain Ferguson reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"I have just returned from a fantastic 2 days at the Devon Green Wood Centre. The course was very well organised and the location is superb - you work outside in fine weather. Peter is an excellent tutor - very interesting, knowledgeable and encouraging. All 8 participants came away with pieces they were justly proud of and will no doubt treasure for years; my first green wood stool (with 3 ash legs and a beech seat) will be admired by me (and others, I hope) for a very long time."

mary copeland reviewed: Green wood creative seating course (6 Days)

"What an absolutely fantastic course!! Peter is a most excellent teacher with so much knowledge and creativity to share, he really pushed the boat out with all of us creating completely different unique seats guided by his wonderful expertise. I cannot recommend this course enough, it is set in such a beautiful location, close to the sea, and Peter guides you along the way to produce a beautiful work of art that you can enjoy for many years to come. For me, it has really sparked a love for green woodworking, a totally absorbing and therapeutic art form, creating and working with this beautiful and natural material! Thank you Peter! I'll be back!"

Nigel Charles reviewed: Green wood chair making in Portugal

"Peter ran the course in such a way that we could make what we wanted but that was realistic in the time available. He gave me all the support and guidance that I needed, his ideas were creative, he taught me some new skills and techniques, he was also really good at showing us how to use the tools and the course was great fun. Peter is a skilled craftsman and he is a very good teacher – he explains things clearly, he is very patient and spent his time fairly with the students. Peter’s workshop is in a beautiful stone barn in stunning countryside and this was also a memorable part of the course, especially as we could work outside in the sunshine and have tea and lunch breaks there was well. His workshop in a beautiful stone barn in stunning countryside was also a memorable part of the course, especially as we could work outside in the sunshine and have tea and lunch breaks there was well. It was a great introduction to green wood working – I highly recommend it to anyone interested in working with wood whatever their level of experience and skill."

"I attended Peter's "Green Woodworking" course in May with all my family and other friends and had a fantastic time. I have done a fair amount of wood and metal work, but wanted to learn about some of the more traditional methods of shaping wood. It was very refreshing to create interesting objects without having to be too accurate about it (except the joints). Peter was very easy going and was receptive to all the questions directed at him. I came away enthused to do more green woodwork projects. We will always remember the weekend as a highlight of our year."

"Brilliant course, both informative and highly enjoyable. Peter and Marv's patient and friendly approach was spot on and the whole setting made it a memorable experience. Great fun but also extremely useful , introducing us to the wonderful world of froes, travishers, and spokeshaves!!"

Peter reviewed: Green wood chair making - 6 day woodworking course in Devon

"This course was an inspiration to me. I have very limited woodworking experience, and going from a log of ash to a chair in 6 days is a steep learning curve, but completely absorbing. I was very happy to end the week with such a lovely chair, all of which I had made myself, and I am now planning to go on Peter's shave horse course and to have another go at chair making at home. Peter is an excellent teacher and his workshop is in a wonderful location only a few minutes walk from the South Devon Coast Path. I highly recommend this course."

Tim reviewed: Green wood chair making - 6 day woodworking course in Devon

"The course was absolutely brilliant. Peter is super friendly and has an immense knowledge of furniture making and working with green wood. There is a lot to get done, but the atmosphere is relaxed, allowing you to absorb the techniques you are learning as you go. My favourite aspect of the course is that you are able to modify the design of the chair to reflect your own personal style. Highly recommended!"

Megan reviewed: Green Woodworking - Make a Shave Horse

"I have wanted to build a shave horse for over a year and finally have a beauty to work on! Was a really good course, Peter was very patient and guides you through new techniques. Can't lie it was hard work but at the end of the day you have a cracking contraption that fits in your boot and you can take with you to workshops to whittle and carve where ever you fancy."

Peter Sharp reviewed: Green Woodworking - Make a Shave Horse

"Having been on the introduction to green woodworking course with Peter Lanyon it was obvious I needed a shave horse.... So I was very pleased to come back and build one with five other enthusiasts. Peter's gentle manner and patient advice when giving 1:1 support is invaluable. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and came away with a fully working shave horse and even persuaded my other half to try it next day. Fantastic course with a product that will be used again and again - what's not to like? Take the plunge and go yourself, you'll be pleased you did. Many warm thanks to Peter."

Rod Horne reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"An excellent 2 days. Totally absorbing , so much so that the time whistled past. Peter's style of instructing is very pleasing and he allows you to get on with your work without to much interjection, however he is there immediately you need help. I was amazed at the quality and appearance of the stool I made, it is a "one off" that exists nowhere else! If you want two days of enjoyment therapy get along to one of Peter Lanyon's courses, you won't be disappointed."

Michael Waring reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"Fantastic course! The whole experience was better than I had hoped for a weekend of creativity for my 16 year old son and I. Peter and the team operate a very warm, friendly and relaxed operation and are very open with the skills and techniques required for a beginner; keen to give you extra tips whenever possible. The course is still at the forefront of our minds weeks after completing the course and has given us the confidence to try things at home."

"I'd recommend this course to anyone, an insightful and inspiring look at green wood working. Peter and Garv were helpful and knowledgable, and with their instruction you come away with a really unique, beautiful and personal piece of furniture that you've built from scratch. I loved every minute and could easily have spent longer"

"I can't recommend this course highly enough. Peter and Garv were so friendly and helpful, so we all felt immediately at ease. I've learnt so much about green woodworking and am absolutely hooked. This is fully hands-on and the piece you produce is entirely your own. Time just flew and I can't wait to go back for more. If you get a chance to attend this course, you should go. The setting is idyllic, you will learn a huge amount and you will have enormous fun doing it."

"Nothing but good things to say about this course.. Great people, calm friendly atmosphere, and in a beautiful location. I loved learning about the tools and techniques of green woodwork and was amazed by how much we managed to achieve in one weekend. I also loved seeing all the different things that everyone made. Many thanks Peter, hope to see you again on the next course!"

Duncan Armstrong reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"What a fabulous weekend! The 2 day course introduces tools and techniques I, for one, had certainly never heard of. To end the course with a piece of furniture we now use at home is more than I could have hoped for. Peter's (and Cath's) calm, quiet instruction and friendly encouragement throughout the weekend was brilliant. Already looking at the Build a Shave Horse course! I simply cannot recommend this course highly enough - go if you can!"

"Absolutely loved this course! Was thrilled to be able to produce a lovely hand tooled green wood stool in just 2 days. There was quite a pace to the course to get everything done but the group was really nice, the atmosphere convivial & all set in a great location. Peter is a wonderful tutor & Cath was a great support throughout. Highly recommended & I hope to get back for another course soon."

Peter Sharp reviewed: Introduction to green wood furniture making - two days

"OUTSTANDING Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making on 30 - 31 January 2016. Having promised myself this treat some time ago - I thoroughly enjoyed the two days and I've got the bug now. I've ordered my left-handed axe (who knew!) and a froe and will be on the case for Japanese saw and drawknife shortly. Peter's quiet and authoritative delivery with conviction, skill, experience and encouragement is a great way to learn. The group of folk there were convivial and there was a quick sense of camaraderie as we all did our best... and all came away with a table or stool that came from fresh cut timber and all beginners at these techniques. If you fancy this - just do it, you'll be pleased you did. Many thanks - unreserved enthusiasm."

Iona Dowling reviewed: Green Woodworking - Make a Shave Horse

"I went on Peter's shave horse course last year and came home with a fully working item that I had made myself. I am not a woodworker but the excellent preparation that Peter did beforehand made the process smooth and easily achievable in 1 day. I was excited to be working in a proper green woodworking shop and using excellent tools, some for the first time in my life. It was great to meet other people from a variety of work backgrounds but who all have some common interest. It was a privilege to be taught by someone as skilled as Peter and his own works are an inspiration. Fully recommended."

Theo Tanser reviewed: Green Woodworking - Make a Shave Horse

"With little experience, I was able to make a shave horse, over the course of a day. There was lots of measuring and accuracy needed but help was always at hand. Most of the wood was pre-cut to size but we had to measure drill holes. The shave horse is a great portable design and is a neat piece of kit for a forest schooler. Peter is a calm, patient and confident tutor. All tools needed were provided and waiting times to use drills were minimal. The large barn/workshop was a good environment to work in and was well heated by a woodburner. The place can be a little hard to find and I would always follow Pete's instructions rather than the sat nav or GPS. Value for money - Excellent."

Ken Bromage reviewed: Green wood tables workshop at Lambside Farm - Week 1 (6 Days)

"This was the second course I have attended and both have been excellent. As a complete novice at green wood furniture making I confess to being apprehensive, my fears were unfounded and I cannot recommend Peter as a tutor and mentor highly enough. All round a great experience in an ideal location and enormous fun, the learning packed into the courses is enormous and leaves you wanting to try experimenting on your own. I constructed the Patio Table and my son the nest of tables. Make sure you take lunch the nearest shop is 5 miles away!"

Jeremy reviewed: Green wood chair making - 6 day woodworking course in Devon

"This was an excellent course. I have worked with wood for many years, but never with green wood, I think I am probably now hooked. Peter's teaching was very clear, he was always on hand to help, and every single member of the course left there with a beautifully constructed chair. I very much hope to attend another of his courses one day."
