I have attended Jo's spinner ring workshop and loved very minute. If you’ve never tried any form of soldering or, in fact, any kind of jewellery making before, it doesn’t matter. Jo is very patient and will guide you through every step of making your own silver ring. As each class size is fairly small, there’s plenty of time for some one-on-one tuition, and you’ll find that you can quickly get to grips with some basic silversmithing techniques such as sawing accurately, filing, polishing, and annealing your pieces.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for coming on the workshop last weekend Susanne! It was lovely to spend the day with you all, and to see the different designs you chose for your rings. Thank you for your kind review!
I only wear silver jewellery so I wanted to make some earrings for myself. An enjoyable day. Great instruction from Jo and the class was small enough so everyone got enough time with Jo. Plenty of time to do what was needed and lots of choice too - of styles and patterns. I still get compliments on my earrings.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:I'm very pleased to hear that your earrings have been admired! Your chose some lovely designs. Thank you for coming, and for your kind words!
This was my first silver workshop, and not being very art minded I was worried about how I’d get on, it was a great day though with lots of hands on instruction from Jo, and I came away very pleased with my results, I would highly recommend Jo and her workshops, she goes out of her way to make your day enjoyable and memorable.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your kind words Jean, and for coming on the workshop. You made some very lovely earrings, and I hope they have brought you lots of compliments!
My Mum and I attended the silver earring workshop just before Christmas. Unlike my Mum I’m not particularly arty but wanted to try something different. Joanne was so wonderful all day, teaching things clearly- supporting and assisting with the trickier bits and we both came away with a collection of earrings I can barely believe we made ourselves. Couldn’t recommend the day enough- loved it!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Hello Karen, you and your Mum both made some lovely earrings! I hope they have been admired as you've worn them! Thank you for coming to the workshop.
After extensive research, I chose Joanne to have my private lesson for several reasons. Firstly, I felt very comfortable talking with her. She took her time and asked many questions to enable her to tailor the lesson specifically to my needs. On the day she was welcoming, warm and open. Her knowledge is exceptional and she approaches everything in a very logical way. Her years as a Teacher certainly make a huge difference. Jo is infinitely patient and works with you all the way through, ensuring everything you do is correct, even down to your posture to prevent injuries! She is an exceptional teacher who works really hard, filling you with confidence in your abilities to go out there, have fun and create.
A great workshop with a great teacher. I've now enjoyed two courses with Jo - with another three booked. Superb.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your lovely review Sara! It's always lovely to have you in the workshops - and I'll see you again soon!
What a brilliant day. With little experience of jewellery making. I came away with a beautiful bracelet that I'm so proud of. I was totally supported and encouraged throughout the process. Joanne is totally professional and gives her time and experience so unselfishly. I cant wait for the next course.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you so much for your lovely review Dianne! It was great to welcome you back to the studio yesterday, and your bracelet was beautiful!
I had a great day learning how to make a stone set ring with Jo! The studios make a lovely space to hold a workshop and I'm so proud of my finished rings!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for coming to spend your birthday with us Becky, and for your kind review! It was lovely to meet you and to help you make your beautiful rings.
A lovely day out. Jo is a great teacher and even I managed to make a beautiful ring which I am very proud of.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you very much for your kind words Jocelyn! It was lovely to welcome you back to the studio. You are right to be proud of your ring - it is beautiful!
This is a fantastic class with a great teacher. I loved the course and it is a really cost effective way to be able to make gold jewellery. I am lucky to live close to her Eastleigh based studio but to those that are located further away it is a course worth travelling to. It was set in a large studio with really good equipment and a small group of students who ranged from complete beginners to the more experienced. Jo was really good at explaining everything in great detail, in a logical order with demonstration at each stage. She set the pace and I didn't feel rushed and she had enough time for her to be able to give individual help and attention to anyone that needed it. I feel confident to give it a try at home and am over the moon with my two sets of earrings and necklace that I made.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your lovely review Rebecca! It is always a pleasure to have you in the workshops. I look forward to helping you to expand your jewellery skills in the next class!
I cannot recommend Jo's courses highly enough! I have done a few of Jo's jewellery workshops with my mum and sister and we are always talking about which one we are going to do next. Jo is a brilliant teacher and the groups are small enough that you can go at your own pace. She is calm and precise, explains everything clearly and makes even the hardest processes seem easy. Definitely a must if you want to learn a new skill in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your kind words Kate! I always enjoy having the three of you in the workshops, and challenging you to expand your jewellery making skills!
I can't remember if we have done two or 3 of these earring workshops with Jo but what I can tell you is we can't wait to do another! I bought the first earring course as a birthday present for my sister a few years ago. Instead of just buying jewellery I thought it would be special to actually make the jewellery and spend the day together learning something new. It was the best idea because we had such a brilliant memorable day filled with laughter and fun and came home with a handful of beautiful earrings that looked super professional.
We did the earring workshop just before Christmas and gave some of our makes as presents that year- we both got, and continue to get, lovely comments about our earrings and people are always amazed when we say 'I made them'.
We enjoyed the workshop so much we booked to do the spinner bracelet one with our mum soon after and the three of us have come back to do this earring one again. It has become one of our pre-Christmas traditions to spend the day making jewellery with Jo together. Jo is a brilliant teacher, calm, precise and makes learning a joy. She gently guides you through processes at your own pace, helps when you are struggling or pushes you to do something more complex when you need pushing out of your comfort zone. All in all I couldn't recommend Jo and her jewellery courses highly enough! If you are looking to start from scratch or expand your skills Jo's your gal!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:It is always so lovely to have you, Hannah and your mum along on the workshops! You and Hannah currently hold the record of 14 pairs of earrings each made on the Silver Earrings Workshop!
This is the third course that I've completed with Jo who has taught me the skills on piercing and sawing. I thoroughly enjoyed my private tuition, and Jo is a very patient and thorough teacher who explains the reasons to each process/technique.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your kind words Anna! Your sawing came on leaps and bounds during our last session - an essential skill that will help you so much with your jewellery making! It's always a pleasure to have you with me in the studio.
I started my silversmith journey a while back and shared some very enjoyable time with Jo developing my skills initially and refining them later. In the early days Jo was very much my teacher, providing me with step by step guidance and insights into the intricacies of the art, craft and science of silversmithing. As my skill moved forward Jo became a mentor and many a puzzle was solved with some exploring of the challenges of designs that were nebular and required multiple techniques and strategies to reach the finished piece.
In some of my later sessions I would arrive with two or three gems, an idea and a day to produce something. On others Jo would have a session prepared around particular challenge like hinges. In every scenario Jo had the patience and understanding to draw out the best results. Did every idea work out? Well not entirely, some needed simplification, but we ended up with a piece at the end of every session.
Jo and I enjoyed working through new techniques, tools and challenges. In latter sessions Jo and I would approach the very difficult area of how to make a piece aesthetic and wearable. I am an engineer at heart and Jo helped me understand that battleship proportions were not always as beautiful as I perceive them. She helped me work with better proportion and make more balanced pieces.
Novice, intermediate or advance Jo will be one of the milestones in anyone's silversmith journey. I learnt a lot, shared a lot and enjoyed every second of the time that I shared with Jo as I continue my silversmith journey. Looking forward to my next challenge...
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for such a wonderful review Paul! It is an absolutely pleasure to teach you and help you on your silversmithing journey - and I enjoy the challenges you bring to the studio! Looking forward to having your company in the studio again.
It’s always a special treat and great fun to attend one of Jo’s workshops, especially as we try and go as a group. Jo is very patient with us, explaining every step carefully. I was so pleased with my bangle, my latest achievement!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for coming on another workshop Margaret! Your bracelet was lovely.
Joanne is a natural teacher. She talks you through each stage without missing out the vital bit you need to know for the next step to be successful in what you are making.
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your kind words Jen! It is always lovely to have you in the studio and to help you make beautiful jewellery.
This is the second workshop I completed with Jo and was just as brilliant! Jo is such a good teacher and made me feel really at ease, even while doing the really fiddly bits! I absolutely love my ring and can’t believe I made it myself! Highly recommend any of Jo’s workshops :)
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:It was great to have you back in the studio Danni, thank you for coming! I am glad you like you ring - it is lovely!
I have attended Jo’s spinner ring workshop with a group of friends. We had a wonderful time creating our masterpieces. Jo was so helpful, using examples of her work to help us design our rings and was there to guide us every step of the way.
I was so proud of my spinner ring, I love the fact I made my own piece of jewellery!!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your kind review! It was great to have you all in the studio - you all made such lovely rings and bangles!
Jo is a wonderful and patient teacher. There were a group of 5 of us in the class and she spent one on one time with all of us to make sure we were on track. It was so much fun and totally addictive - can’t wait to book into more of Jo’s courses!
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you for your lovely review Danni! It was a pleasure as always teaching you. Your ring was beautiful!
I have made a few pieces of jewellery with Jo but this was one of the first workshops I went to. I vividly remember choosing the stone I wanted to make my pendant necklace with!! Jo was always there to guide us through, showing us techniques to use to help us create our own pieces.
I thoroughly enjoy Jo’s workshops, such a friendly and calm environment to be creative. I can’t wait to book my next one...
Response from Joanne Tinley Jewellery:Thank you Amy, It's always lovely to have you in the studio! Your pendant was beautiful.
