Andy Boon reviewed: One to one, One day, blacksmith course

"A really great day in the forge - my wife bought me the experience as a 60th birthday present during the pandemic, so I had to wait a long time to use the voucher, but well worth the wait. We now have a distinctive bird bath for the garden. Alex is an excellent teacher, and made sure I was fully involved in all aspects of the job. Also, the forge is in a beautiful location in the South Downs, within a very interesting museum. Good cafe! "

Chalk Pit Forge responded:

"Hi Andy, Thanks for your great review, it's very much appreciated. I'm glad you are happy with what you made and that you enjoyed your hands on experience! Thanks again for coming and having a bash! Alex "

Val Russell reviewed: Weaving: the journey begins

"This course was really good. Initially, I wondered how this weaving process worked, but by the end of the day it all made sense. I would love one day, to buy a small loom and continue to improve my skills. Ashleigh did a great job teaching and guiding my husband and I. He moved us on at the rate we were learning which was perfect for us as we were learning at very different speeds. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is interested in weaving."

Patrik reviewed: Creative Vibe - Glassblowing Sessions

"The glassblowing session exceeded our expectations in so many ways - it was the best crafting experience we have ever had. The session was very fluid (no pun intended) and was so much better than other courses offered that involve multiple students per session - it was two of us only, meaning we had plenty of one-on-one's with Ricky and got to learn much more. It was a pleasure to learn from Ricky, who was very nice and explained the art of glassblowing very well (clearly transmitting his enthusiasm and passion for it). He also helped guide you in the process at the same time as giving you some independence while creating your piece, which we thought was the perfect balance. And got to create four pieces as well! Can't recommend enough."

John Mitchison reviewed: Blacksmith Experience Day - Anvil Forge

"My son Jay and I came for a blacksmithing course last Saturday 15th October). I just wanted to let you know we had a really great time. It was the first time in a forge for both of us and we were both looking forward to it. we were not disappointed, we both got the chance to make a knife and a poker, both of which will be used by us in the future. I wanted to say a special thank you to Spencer and Phil, they were fantastic! They were incredibly helpful, patient, knowledgeable and funny. They could explain things really clearly, they were able to judge all the different abilities of the group. Spencer could read my son Jay (13) really well and was able to offer him just the right level of support at the right time - a real skill for someone teaching mixed groups. Thanks again for a great day Best wishes John"

"My husband and I completed the day class in bronze age heads, and we couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. The process was thorough and guided, and yet we were allowed the freedom to truly 'make our own'. Jonathan was a very hospitable host, and welcomed us into home & workshop. It was wonderful to meet with someone so passionate and knowledgeable on such a broad range of subjects. Will be back to try other courses in the NY! Thank you "
