Liz Priest reviewed: Realistic and Adorable Needle Felt Animals & Pets

"My Mum and I went to Sophie’s needle felting workshop day on 14th April. We had never done needle felting before but by the end of the day I had created an elephant ? & mum made a sheep ?. We thoroughly enjoyed the day which went by so quickly. Sophie explained the process of needle felting in an easy understandable way with a step by step approach. Sophie gives you confidence and was attentive to us as individuals and as a group. We had a lovely group of ladies who all created a beautiful collection of ? a ? and a ?. The surroundings were beautiful and we were served coffee and bus units and a fantastic lunch. We were inspired to carry on needle felting at home and brought a starter kit from Sophie. This Worksop is ideal for people with no experience of needle felting and you will be amazed at what you create & take home. Equally if you have experience the worshop would enable you to learn new techniques, tips and broaden your knowledge. This is all a testament to Sophie’s knowledge & teaching approach. We would highly recommend attending Sophie’s workshops."

Dennis Martin reviewed: Woodturning in Devon with Colin Simpson

"There has been a fifty year gap since I last tried my hand at wood turning and, as with a lot of things, tools and techniques have changed during that time. I was a trifle rusty. Colin quickly determined the style of coaching that I respond to best and, over a two day period, patiently guided me through the steps required in order to get me started again. He explained what had to be done, why it had to be done and how to do it before demonstrating how to do it myself. He then observed my attempts and corrected me (diplomatically) has I tried to apply the skills he had imparted. It was a very useful two days and I would recommend Colin and his courses to anyone that wishes to take up the craft or improve their existing skills. Most enjoyable and very useful."

"I am hugely grateful to Gregory Moreton for giving me the woordturning bug! His teaching is excellent and very accommodating and he inspired me to look forward to 'retirement' which will definitely include woodturning. 2 of the most worthwhile and helpful days I can remember.Great facilities with loads of common sense as well! Keep up the good work, Gregory!"

Anna reviewed: Make a silver ring or bangle

"I really enjoyed my day at Lucy's studio. She was very knowledgeable and had many years experience to guide me through the day. In one day I managed to create 2 beautiful bangles. Lucy allowed me freedom to make my own creative choices about what I made whilst guiding me on what was achievable for a beginner. Highly recommend."

Ulrike Ranson reviewed: Hand spinning for beginners at Cartmel Handspun

"I had never spun before but was somehow inspired by the spinning wheel my parents have stored in their attic for years. I really enjoyed the different processes and experiences spinning offers, feeling the fleece, listening to the wheels, seeing the thread forming, and being thrilled by the end result. Elaine is a great teacher and mentor, very patient as well as knowledgeable and offers this course in her warm and cosy house. I can only recommend it."

Georgia Redpath reviewed: Plaster mould making for slip cast ceramics with Ed Bentley

"I had a one-to-one day with Ed, at ACAVA studios / Spode Works in Stoke. As someone who works with glass, I wanted to know more about the possibilities of plaster model-making and lathe turning. I also had lots of questions...! Ed was brilliant, friendly and patient. We were able to discuss various options, and then move on to turning and carving the plaster. I left with a much better idea of what is possible with plaster, some handy hints and tips, and a plaster blank so I could continue my voyage of discovery at home. It's great to watch and learn from someone with skill, who knows their materials and tools."

Hannah Sheppard reviewed: Bees for Development Sustainable Beekeeping Weekend Courses 2024

"A fantastic immersive weekend learning about bees, their society and what they need from nature to continue pollinating a third of the world's food. The five tutors presented an incredible bank of knowledge and insight and even taught us how to build our own hive. I have left the course enthused to learn more and already making a plan about how and where to keep bees, and also how to advocate for bees to my local council, county council, fellow gardeners and neighbours. It became apparent through the course how different the sustainable approach to beekeeping is vis-a-vis other more interventionist approaches, and how modern farming methods can be so destructive. So, thank you Bees for Development; I am glad to have started my journey with bees, with you."

Catherine Mears reviewed: Introduction to Glass Fusing with Enamels - Full Day Workshop

"Excellent one day Glass fusing with enamels. I arrived as a surprise birthday present and knew nothing about it so consequently no preparation done whatsoever. Steve is a great teacher and very helpful. The full day gave us lots of opportunity to experiment in the morning making large tiles and learning how to apply the enamels to produce different finishes. After a lovely lunch at the local pub, we made our large panel in the afternoon. There was also time to make tea light panels. We were able to make lots of pieces which Steve fired overnight ready for collection next day. I was delighted with my wall panel and selection of tiles which I am going to slump into dishes. It was lovely to meet Alison and Lizzy and spend the day doing glass with them. I can thoroughly recommend this one day course and feel inspired to continue with the enamels using my own kiln. Thank you Steve for a great day."

Vannin reviewed: Mosaic and Glass Art 2-day Course

"I took four children, two aged 10 and two ages 12, and myself for a two hour workshop as a school holiday treat. Maggie was inspiring to work with and more than generous with her materials. She managed to facilitate each of our very different creative processes so that we all came away with a piece we’ll treasure. I can see us returning again in the future."

James Deutsch reviewed: Wood turning courses in the Midlands

"Brilliant day of wood turning! From a complete beginner but with an interest in wood generally, I found the course to be really interesting - with something to show for it at the end of the day! Mark's knowledge, exacting standards and patience I found to be second to none. A genuinely nice guy and a cracking teacher all combined to a thoroughly enjoyable day. I am seriously considering how and when I could take up as a hobby - and when I do - likely to be back. Thank you so much!!"

Catharine Morris reviewed: Creative Paper Cutting (1 day) in the Peak District

"This course was very interesting and enjoyable. Christine is an excellent teacher and she was full of enthusiasm and conveyed this throughout the day. She managed to give us all enough individual time and help as needed. These days are however never long enough; needed more time. There is an assumption that participants should to go home with a finished "piece"; I feel this is not as useful as learning more techniques and trying out different ways of doing things. It was a good start and I hope to continue with it. The venue was excellent with very friendly hosts and excellent refreshments. Highly recommended."

Paul Siddals reviewed: Blacksmith forge experience day - introductory course with use of power hammer

"This was an excellent practical full day's introduction to blacksmithing. During the very enjoyable day I did squaring, drawing out, scrolling, off-setting, up-setting and twisting. Chester is likeable, patient and knowledgeable. I had a whole day (9.45 to 18.00) of one to one tuition for a very modest cost. I would recommend this course to anyone, male or female of any age over 14. Forging is a fascinating skill that engineers and artist should experience, although everyone would find it fascinating ."

"I really enjoyed this course. Thank you."

Anne Nichol reviewed: Creative Paper Cutting (1 day) in the Peak District

"This course was held in a wonderful setting and run by Christine who is extremely skilled talented and experienced. We had 8 people in the group which was an ideal number so we could both work independently and be given plenty of guidance if needed. Christine explained all the processes involved in paper cutting in an encouraging and enabling way. I would have liked more time to develop and work on the afternoon project as that felt a bit rushed but otherwise a really inspiring and worthwhile introduction to an interesting craft. The hosting, venue and yummy food greatly enhanced the experience. Thank you all."

Zantium Studios Ltd responded:

"Hello Anne, Thanks so much for your positive review. Great to hear you enjoyed the course. I will pass on your comment about needing longer for the afternoon project. Time tends to fly on our one-day workshops...partly the nature of creative pursuits, I'm afraid, but if we can pace things differently we will. So glad you enjoyed the setting and sustenance!"

Lee Fitzgerald reviewed: Wood turning courses

"2 day course for a birthday present was made very enjoyable by George and his wife Susan. Their hospitality was great. It made me feel at home and relaxed. George’s excellent tuition was pitched perfectly for a beginner like me. The creative and technical aspects of woodturning were imparted from George’s experience with a humorous and easygoing teaching style. I had fun and I feel that I have learnt a lot from this course. It has motivated me to continue woodturning as a hobby. A generous birthday gift and an excellent tutor."

"I have been woodturning for a few years now, all self taught. and my partner gave me a one day course with Mark. I learnt more in one day with Mark than I've learnt in years. Mark is an excellent teacher and the patience of a saint. A day with Mark is a day well spent. Thank you Mark."

Joseph Evans reviewed: Glass blowing for beginners with Jon Lewis

"Such a great experience! Jon is a really knowledgeable and patient teacher. The workshop is in a very picturesque location in an old mill on the side of a canal. On the day we went even though we had minus figures and snow outside we were sweating inside. To work with glass is very demanding but also very rewarding and Jon was helped us to be very productive. In 6 hours we managed to make so many interesting glass sculptures we were shocked (cups, bottles, marbles, paperweights) and also were able to keep them all. Would highly recommend this course to anyone with an interest in exploring a new material. In fact we’re probably going to go back to try to expand our skills further. Well worth the money and a hearty lunch is also included!"
