Understanding your camera at Cowshed Creative in the Lake District near Windermere and Kendal

Understand your camera workshop at Cowshed Creative

At Cowshed Creative, we run an extensive range of art, craft and heritage workshops in our beautifully converted art studio. Treat yourself to a creative experience on our traditional family farm in the heart of the Lake District. From the fantastic and consistent feedback we have received, you are sure to have a great day!

Take charge of your camera! This workshop will help you understand the many functions of your camera and how to use them to take better photos. Ideal for a budding photographer who is bewildered by the array of settings or tends to set the camera on Auto. Learn how to use the controls, discover the elements for strong composition and how to review your photos effectively, to ensure superb results. There will be plenty of opportunity to put these ideas into practice, explore the area and enjoy the amazing views. Our traditional Lakeland farm in the stunning Kentmere valley is the perfect place for to develop your skills.

Eric Pye, loves being outdoors; not just for the grand views or the dramatic panorama, but also the small details that knit together to make the fabric of the land; coloured lichen patterning the rocks in a stream, the spray of a waterfall, clouds reflected in a tiny patch of water or the patchwork of light flitting over a hillside. These are the things that inspire him to use his camera in an attempt to tell the story of these places and times. As well as attending numerous courses, he has worked with a mentor, who has helped him progress with lots of the technical and practical aspects of photography and allowed him to develop his own, personal style. Eric was a primary school teacher for many years, and likes to use those teaching skills to help people with their photography skills.

This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Lakeland barn on our traditional family Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a relatively new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
