Learn how to make your very own needle felted robin decoration from the comfort of your own home, under the tuition of Gretel Parker, who has been a practising needle felt artist since 2008. This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to try their hand at needle felting, either complete beginners, or with some experience.
The robin you will be making during the live workshop will be quite small, (2-3 inches) to enable a ‘start to finish’ project in the two and a half hours. I will be working alongside you with my hands on screen most of the time, so that you can see clearly how I work. I will, of course, be able to answer any questions you have throughout. There is enough wool and extras in the kit to make another robin after the workshop, in your own time.
Gretel Parker is a seasoned workshop holder with many years of experience and the author of ‘Little Needle-Felt Animals’, published by Harper Collins, 2014. She has worked as a freelance pattern designer for the popular craft magazine ‘Mollie Makes’, with three front cover features, as well as other magazines, including ‘Crafty’ and ‘Craft Seller’. Her patterns are also included in ‘Mollie Makes Christmas’, ‘Mollie Makes Birds’ and ‘Mollie Makes Weddings’.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Your robin kit contains a selection of merino wools (brown body wool, breast colours and beak) plus four needles on a card holder, two size 40 spirals, for starting off and general work and two size 42 triangulars for fine work and finishing off. Also two small crocodile clips and two pairs of onyx beads for eyes. This is more than enough for the workshop piece and with plenty left over to practise more in your own time, when we are finished.
A felting sponge or mat to work on. (A piece of dense foam of any kind will be fine to use).
A Zoom account - please familiarise yourself with the basic working if you have never used Zoom before. I will contact you a day beforehand with a password and meeting number.

I had a really lovely time learning to needle felt with Gretel. I was very anxious to begin with, after a failed solo attempt at needle felting before I'd had any tuition, which resulted in a large misshapen lump!! Gretel was extremely patient and kind, and over the course of the workshop she helped me build my confidence and get to grips with the basics of needle felting. I am over the moon with my little Robin, and now feel that I can continue to practice in my own time, and will be able to try other projects using the techniques Gretel taught me. Using Zoom worked really well, we were both able to see enough of what each other were doing for me to learn, and for Gretel to be able to give me hints and tips as we went along. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Gretel's workshops to anybody who wanted to give needle felting a try or develop their skills.
Response from Gretel Parker:Thank you very much Rachel, you were a pleasure to teach and it was lovely to see you enjoying your work. I hope that you continue with your needle felt ‘journey’ and look forward to seeing anything new that you create.
I so enjoyed this workshop with the lovely Gretel. Not only is she a fabulous artist but also an extremely patient teacher. I was thrilled with my little robin and as Gretel provided more wool than was required for one bird was able to make another as a gift. Highly recommended as an escape from lockdown as well as inspiring me to start a new hobby.
Response from Gretel Parker:Thank you so much Lisa, it was great fun working with you and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
