Three Day Pet Portrait Painting Course

Well done Margaret

Create your own pet portrait using oil paints. Using a good reference photo we will take three days to produce a fantastic painting of yours or a loved ones pet. It can be a dog, cat, horse, ferret, budgie or even a bearded dragon.

We start on day one with a tracing, then an underpainting in burnt umber.
Then on day two we block in all the main colours having identified the three main colours we need, we mix them and block and blend them. we also add the eyes and muzzle, or beak.

The final day is spent refining and adding details, such as fine hairs, tweaking the darks and lights and bringing the painting a conclusion. I am on hand to guide and mentor you through the whole process so you are sure to produce a lovely painting you will be proud of. The canvas size is A3 and we use professional oil paints and brushes so your painting will look great.

This course is suitable for beginners and as we trace the image on to the canvas we don't spend time trying to draw in free hand so no danger of us going wrong.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

What's included in the price?

Morning refreshments of tea and coffee with biscuits.
A fresh and home made lunch with soft drink.
Afternoon tea or coffee with biscuits.
Canvas and all materials to produce your painting.
Tuition and guidance across all three days.

I cannot praise Sue O’Mara’s Pet Portrait course highly enough. I had looked at various other artists’ web sites to commission a pet portrait, but after reading through the details of Sue’s course, felt that painting my pet would be more fulfilling, and it really was.
I am extremely grateful to Sue for nurturing my inner artist. Sue is lovely, and an excellent teacher. Her course is structured in such a way, that you see real progress during, and at the end of each day. Sue explains methods and painting techniques with each stage, and is extremely encouraging. I am an absolute beginner, and thrilled with the end result! The course is extremely enjoyable, and great value for money. The location of the studio is very peaceful, and the lunches provided by Sue an added bonus – they are delicious!

Response from Sue O'Mara Art:

Hi Sara, thank you for your kind words. You did very well and the finished paining was fabulous! I look forward to seeing you again one day for the next painting :)
With all best wishes, Sue
