A weekend carving course with one-to-one tuition which is fun and informative. There are only 4 students per course so it can be tailored to suit your needs whether you are a beginner or experienced. With a course introduction and an accompanying booklet we cover: How to work safely (bench height, lifting, safety wear), different tools, different methods for carving in 3D (Carving Direct, Profiling and using templates) and a summary about different types of stone. I use a mentoring method of teaching so we can discuss your options as you progress and then choose the direction of your work.
If the weather is good we carve outside under the trees otherwise we are in in the workshop. Beginners start on Farmington Limestone but those with more experience have a wider choice of rocks including soapstone, alabaster or Portland.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Included in the price is the use of a full set of carving tools, a block of the local Farmington Limestone and safety wear (goggles or plastic glasses and a particulate mask) will be provided.
Please wear warm old clothes and sturdy closed toe shoes which you don’t mind getting dusty.
The course lasts two days. Each day will have two small breaks and a 30 min break for lunch. Drinks are provided but please bring a packed lunch.
