A weekend carving course with one-to-one tuition which is fun and informative. There are only 3 students per course (reduced to to Covid social distancing) so it can be tailored to suit your needs whether you are a beginner or have experience.
The course will cover: How to work safely, tool use, methods for carving in 3D. I use a course booklet with background information (e.g. basic stone masonry and geology) and I use a mentoring method of teaching where we discuss your options as you progress whilst encouraging the the carver to choose the direction of their work.
If the weather is good we carve outside under the trees, otherwise we are in in the workshop.
Beginners start on Farmington Limestone but those with more experience have a wider choice of rocks including soapstone, alabaster or Portland.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Included in the price: the use of a full set of carving tools, a block of the local Farmington Limestone, safety wear (goggles or plastic glasses and a particulate mask).
Please wear warm old clothes and sturdy closed toe shoes (which you don’t mind getting dusty).
The course lasts two days. Each day will have a morning and afternoon tea break and a 30 min break for lunch. Drinks are provided but please bring a packed lunch.
This craft course provider has been awarded Bronze status for receiving 1 or more 5 star ratings from previous students.

This is a great weekend workshop. Debs is a really skilled stone carver. She is enthusiastic, encouraging and full of ideas but also keen to let you find your own work of art in a piece of stone. It is suitable for beginners and also for people who have done some carving before and wanting to develop their skills and technique.

Aw thanks Diane!Debs runs a brilliant course with her warm friendly Northern manner. It’s a weekly event I enjoyed. As Debs combined her knowledge and expert advice with the space for one to discover their own creativity and stone craving desires. Totally value for money.
