About the Course
Our full year of 100+ set workshop dates are on OUR website (purple tab) along with availability and how to book.
Next year’s extensive programme of Quirky Workshops will be launched in late October; often courses fill quickly as they make popular Christmas gifts. To be among the first to receive the new dates, please use the ‘Keep me Posted’ icon, at the top RHS of our website page. Thank you and Happy Crafting!
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Learn all about furniture painting up-cycling techniques. You will use Annie Sloane chalk paints, Farrow & Ball, learn how to stencil, crackle glaze finish and much more!
You will begin by working on simple boards. You will learn the various techniques of using chalk paints including distressing and waxing techniques that will be explained, shown and practiced and then move on to transforming your own piece(s) that you have brought.
Sonja Tilleard owns the wonderful home and gift ware shop 'White and Green' (in Cockermouth). She has completed several painting effects/techniques courses including the most well known run by Annie Sloane. On this course at Greystoke you can bring along your own piece of furniture; choose something small that you can carry easily like a stool or chair- if you bring something larger be prepared perhaps not to finish it in the day
You will learn how to totally transform your piece and create something different and unique. The very best bit is that no sanding is required. The paints used are so thick there is no need and you will soon learn how easy and quick it is to transform various pieces. One can just paint over existing finishes. Chalk paint is a great 'leveller'. There may be a charge of around £5 for materials if you come with an extra large piece - more often than not the paint is included though.
Check out White & Green's other courses including Patterned Roller Printing and Lampshade making! (You can follow the link at the top left of this page 'Quirky Workshops at Greystoke Cycle Cafe' where you will find our entire range of courses and workshops).
If you wish to join our database, please click on the 'stay in touch' button on the top corner of our home page on our website- link above. Many of our early courses get booked up for Christmas presents.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Welcome drinks: fresh coffee & home made biscuits. We will be using both the Aga and conventional fan oven. Your day will include a lovely 2 course lunch, with hand made bread and all refreshments.
Our courses are considered real treats - many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.
We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Cycle Cafe Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
Sonja will bring all the materials specialist brushes, paints and waxes required and a materials charge will be made per person - probably around £10 payable directly to the tutor depending on the size of each piece brought by students.
Hi Annie and Sonja
Just a quick email to say how much I enjoyed my Furniture Painting day on Wednesday. The course was excellent as was the food. I look forward to attending another one soon.
