Rope Flax Basket Workshop in The Cotswolds - Gloucestershire/Wiltshire/Oxfordshire Border

X

Description

Join us to make your own beautiful Flax Rope basket in this exciting workshop at the Craft Barn. Learn how to use the technique of twining to create a sturdy and functional basket from flax rope, with a flash of natural colour. You will be able to choose from a selection of pre-dyed rope to personalise the design of your basket (this rope has been hand-dyed by an artisan dyer using natural dyes). A humble rope basket sees at least five 'people' through its life: the flax grower, the spinner, the ropemaker, the basket maker, and of course the final owner. The Flax rope used is a natural fibre that is relatively soft on the hands when working. No previous experience or specific skills are needed however, it is a busy workshop and you need to twist and manipulate the rope a lot with your hands. This workshop is led by Laurence Knoop of Splice and Fid, who lives full-time on a narrowboat with his young family. The narrowboat is also his workshop, storefront and vehicle for travelling the waterways of England and Wales. Laurence also leads our Rope Trivet workshop, a great introduction to ropework. You will aim to take home a finished basket that measures approximately 23 x 23 x 13 cm. Suitable for beginners, minimum age 16 years

Crafting in the Cotswolds – what’s not to love? Lechlade Craft Barn offers craft workshops in the pretty Cotswolds market town of Lechlade on Thames. The Craft Barn is an attractive old stone barn at Karen's home and is the perfect setting to discover and develop your crafting skills. Owner Karen has a long-held passion for crafting, with backgrounds in retail and event management. Along with her workshops, she is joined by a talented team of guest tutors who offer a wide range of craft workshops. The barn is accessed via external stone steps with handrails on either side and unfortunately may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Some workshops are delivered nearby in the bright and spacious Memorial Hall complex and other local venues. In addition to published workshops, we also offer bespoke Crafty Parties for Hens, groups of friends and family, special occasions, or any excuse to have a crafty day.
