Duration: Three days
at Quirky Workshops at Greystoke Craft Garden (formerly Cycle Cafe)
About the Course
A 3 day stone carving workshop creating a relief carving with expert stone Pip Hall, suitable for beginners as well as those with experience. Pip is a renowned stone carver and tutor. She taught here regularly several years ago and we are delighted she is returning to Greystoke to take another of her excellent courses. Pip is also an expert in Stone Letter Carving, so this could also be another option for your piece.
The course will take place outside in the garden if you wish and the weather is fine, under the Blacksmith area or in barn entrances if damp or in one of the unheated studios if you prefer to work completely out of the weather. You can decide each day and all in close proximity and you will keep warm as you will generate plenty of heat!.
To sustain your carving you'll be treated to lovely 2 course Aga lunches, home baking and fresh coffees/teas. A perfect compliment to your slice of fresh air and downtime in which to lose yourself whilst learning from this master of stone carving.
Pip will guide you through the various processes involved and help you develop your ideas before putting pencil to paper or stone. Over the three full days working under her watchful eye, you will be guided through the world of the stone carver, working on your piece and sculpting your design in stone.
Taking place in the environs of the walled Craft Garden & Barns, the course provides both absorption and relaxation - fresh air and absorption, ideal for anyone with enthusiasm and a little patience...Use of tools and etc. included. Spaces are limited- please or email asap or call to book

Our days are considered special treats; many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.
We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Tea Garden (now sadly closed to the public) on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand-selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
We both wanted to say a big thank you for the wonderful weekend we spent with you, beginning to learn how to letter carve.
We had a really great time despite the achy muscles and heads crammed to bursting with new knowledge. Neither of us realised just how physically tiring it would be and I certainly hadn’t banked on brain overload by day three!
You’ve definitely turned us into fledgling carvers, keen to do more, so internet purchases will be made in the next few days, if not this evening. It was certainly a very different journey home, with lettering and stone leaping out at us from every angle. Thank you so much.
