A fascinating and little known technique using layers of different coloured inks which don’t mix on the plate, enabling you to print multiple colours in one go.
This is a ‘magic’ method that can be used for mono printing and with textured collagraph plates.
The viscosity method produces infinite variations on multi coloured prints. This day is a freewheeling adventure into the world of colour. Mono printing is a great way into understanding how the viscosity method works; the course handout explains it, but this doesn’t always explain the surprising results!
Courses take place in my studio in the garden, with a maximum of 4 people to ensure everyone has space and time for 1-1 tuition. The atmosphere is friendly and informal, encouraging people to share ideas and learn from each other. Everyone makes several plates and a mini portfolio of about 10 – 15 completed prints to take home. You will learn technical skills and techniques as well as developing confidence in your own creativity. All the courses aim to free up thinking and technique, encouraging an inquisitive experimental approach that can feed back into your own creative work, whatever that may be. They are suitable for all levels of experience (or none).
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The fee includes unlimited paper, ink, drinks and biscuits as well as illustrated course hand-outs.
The only thing you need to bring with you is a packed lunch.

Excellent course. Emily is highly experienced, imaginative and encouraging.
Viscoisty is a fascinating technique and it was very well taught and demonstrated.
Really enjoyed the course. It was a small group so plenty of time to try different things, to discuss and review. Excellent clear teaching.
This course really inspired me and I know include viscosity in my practice
Would thoroughly recommend any of Emily’s courses
