This course is for anyone interested in taking their photography to the next level by starting to assemble an intelligent portfolio that covers a range of subjects.
It’s ideal for those who are confident in the technical aspects of camera handling who want to create photographs in a more critical way.
This course will empower photographers to look deeper.
It’s about how to create a narrative in your photography, and how to turn this into a unique portfolio.
The sessions are structured so that anyone of any level will benefit; those with less experience will not feel intimidated and, conversely, those with experience will be challenged.
You’ll create work in the studio and on location and spend your homework time developing your ideas further to bring to class to critique.
On this course, you will:
- follow a series of set project briefs
- explore and experiment with portrait, art, reportage and landscape photography
- complete manageable homework assignments
- develop skills in thinking about your work in a more structured way
- approach your practice with extra confidence
- edit and sequence images into a professional portfolio.
What will you gain?
You’ll leave with the beginnings of a new portfolio of work that tells a story about your ideas and progress.
This portfolio will help you continue to develop your personal approach to taking photos.
It may also open doors into professional photography work, or help you gain access to further studies.
Entry requirements: You should be confident in using your camera in manual mode. No formal photography training is required.
Where you'll learn: You will be based in the School of Art and Design on the City Campus.
You’ll find full-size photography studios, equipped with backgrounds and Profoto lighting, and comprehensive Mac editing suites with software for photography editing including Adobe Creative Cloud.
You’ll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can’t reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.
