Exploring photography at Cowshed Creative in the Lake District National Park near Kendal and Windermere

Kelly Tarn by Eric Pye

This course will help you understand how to use your camera more effectively and provide the opportunity to explore some of South Lakeland’s superb scenery at a photographer’s pace. The emphasis of the workshop will be on practical, personal learning in an informal, sociable and enjoyable setting. Ideally, you will have at least some knowledge of how your camera works, (that is not essential) and a wish to develop your skills. Learn how to control your
camera to achieve a variety of photographs before setting off to explore the local area. Here you will have the chance to try a variety of techniques and hone your skills, with help and advice always on hand. After lunch we will set off again, venturing a little further afield and to some delightful locations, with the chance of creating some wonderful photographs

Eric Pye loves working outdoors, not just the grand view or the dramatic panorama, but also the small details that knit together to make the fabric of the land; coloured lichen patterning the rocks in a stream, the spray of a waterfall, clouds reflected in a tiny patch of water or the patchwork of light flitting over a hillside. He uses his camera in an attempt to tell the story of these places and times.

This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay on the farm in one of our camping pods.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
