Wherever you are in the country, you can now learn how to rag rug with one of the UK's rag rug experts in our new Ragged Life Live Online Workshops.
Have fun turning old t-shirts and forgotten favourites into recycled works of art with the age-old skill of rag rugging.
This 1.5 hour workshop is designed for those who have already learnt the basics of rag rugging, but would like to improve their rag rug design skills. We will learn how to use different fabrics to best effect, choose colours, where to begin a design, how to vary techniques to create interesting designs, plus more.
Our rag rug teacher, Elspeth Jackson, is one of the leading rag ruggers in the country. She is one of the expert teachers at the Knitting & Stitching Show, has had a rag rug book, "Rag Rugs, Pillows & More," published on the subject and is a regular in craft magazines - you'll be in very good hands!
No specific tools needed. A basic knowledge of rag rugging is preferred, but not necessary.

Wow! 90 minutes went so fast! Every minute filled with detail so that I am now confident to be able to follow through on my idea! A rag rug which I thought I might want to do before, I now know I will do, even though it might take a long time to complete, I know I can & will finish it! Thank you so much Elsbeth, and for organising it Lizzie so I could join from the other side of the world.
Response from Ragged Life:So pleased we could make it work with the timings Sarah :-), thank you for the review.
I discovered Ragged Life by Elspeth when I was researching new crafts to try. Elspeth's YouTube videos and book inspired me to start rag rugging and I purchased tools and kits from her website. After trying some small projects, I'm ready to design pillows and rugs. In the online class, Elspeth shared a wealth of tips about choosing fabrics, colors, creating designs, transferring designs to hessian fabric, and so much more. She had great visuals and she emailed them to us after the class. The class was also small so we were free to ask her questions. I live in the U.S. and this is the only way I can take one of Elspeth's classes. Thank you for the online class!!
Response from Ragged Life:Thank you so much Janelle, it was a pleasure teaching you. It was great to be reaching that far afield with the workshop. Keep in touch and send us pictures your creations. Happy Rag Rugging :-) Elspeth x
Elspeth is a very enthusiastic teacher, she obviously loves her subject. She has a lot of knowledge of the subject which she inparts in a very clear and informative way. She had lots if hints and tips to pass on based on her experiences of rag rugging. I found the whole session hugely enjoyable and finished full of enthusiasm wanting to get started on my own project as soon as possible. I felt I gained a lot of useful information which I can put to use in my own projects. Highly recommended.
