This workshop will show you how to screen print using card stencils. With this method, you can print your designs in several layers of flat colour without having to make an exposed screen or using screen filler. When screen printing, ink is forced through a fine mesh onto a flat surface. The stencil will block areas of the fabric from receiving ink, creating your design.
All materials will be supplied, plus a tote bag, tea towel or ready made cushion cover to print on and take home with you.
You may also bring your own fabric or paper to print on if you wish.

Attended Ria’s introduction to screen printing course, just before the virus hit big style. She gave us ideas as to how to plan your design beforehand. Most of us printed on cushion covers or loose fabric to make wall hangings etc. We traced the design onto card to make a stencil and after lunch started printing and mixing colours. Lots of inspiration from village life and nature. Wishing you all the best Ria for your future projects and when we can return!!!
A lovely and very informative day. Ria gave us a great introduction to screen printing whilst allowing us plenty of time to relax and socialise. Couldn't fault anything - even the teas and coffees were excellent! Thanks Ria.
My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this workshop. Ria guided us through the process right from the start to finish ensuring we got the results we wanted. Was a great day with a small group of lovely ladies, cups of tea and lots of creativity in a lovely setting! Would definitely recommend! Thanks! ☺️
A super day with Ria, who is friendly, patient and knowledgeable . Only 6 class members who were all very supportive. Lovely location. We all came home with a completed project which is great, rather than have a number of 'practice pieces' which just get stuffed in a drawer. The only thing I would advise future course members is 'wrap up warm' . Ria had heaters going and the sun shone but it is an old building so difficult to heat.
What a fabulous day learning a new skill. Ria is nothing but patient warm and friendly and the perfect person to learn screen printing from.
The word of the day on Saturday was 'organic'....😀 If you want find out more then you just need to book it and find out as I'm sure it's associated completely to this course now...
Wonderful and hope to see you again soon Ria
Thank you so much
All I can say is, if you have never, ever done screen printing before in your life and you really want to do it but you lack self-confidence - then this is course is for you.
Ria is absolutely fantastic, very knowledgeable and easy-going. We did have a bit of banter and it was great fun which made the course even more enjoyable and I did meet some really lovely people.
The course itself was easy, very detailed and covered inexpensive ways of making a print you could do at home. The materials are free - you can choose from tote bags, tea towels, cushion covers etc. You literally just draw your design, cut a stencil, choose your colours, screen print then stand back and admire your own work!
Don’t worry, you’re not left on your own, Ria is with you all the way. I had problems with the squeegee thingy to start with. You’re supposed to make one or two smooth movements down the screen to push the paint through. I just couldn’t get it right but with Ria’s help and me doing a few practice runs I soon got the knack of it.
At the end of the day, I had learned something new – a new skill that I didn’t have a few hours before and I was able to take my handiwork home with me.
I’m so glad I went on this course.
Thanks for a fantastic day Ria and I do hope to see you soon!
I enjoyed a really good day with Ria. A real bonus having limited numbers on the course. I'd never attempted screen printing and did have difficulty pushing my fine art to one side to enjoy the freedom of printing. Ria is very friendly and a good tutor, it was a day of friendly chat and banter.
Thank you Ria for a most enjoyable day screen printing in your lovely studio.
Ria is a super teacher who is friendly, informative (without overwhelming us!) and supportive throughout the day. The course was perfect for those new to screen printing and I was very pleased with my final result and went away feeling very happy and exhausted.
If you want to try a screen printing technique that you can replicate at home, this is the course for you.
My daughter and I spent a lovely day enjoying learning to screen print with Ria.
Ria is a lovely lady, keen to share her knowledge and ideas and very generous with her time and supplies.
Her teaching approach is open and relaxed and no matter what your skill level, you will not only have a lovely day if you attend this course, but will definitely go home with an accomplished piece of work, which you can choose to complete on the day or finish off at home.
The location is good for parking and lunch in the café can be recommended too.
I would recommended this course and if like myself you have never done screen printing before and are unsure at to whether to go or not..........
just go............what have you got to lose???
Very enjoyable day. Clear instruction and presented in a fun way by Ria.
Positive result by the end of the day with completed item and a bit more to practice with.
Thank you for a great, productive time.
I thoroughly enjoyed the screen printing day, it was definitely worth the hour and a half journey both ways. Ria is a very patient teacher and I learnt a lot, and I have a lovely cushion cover sitting on my sofa now! I now have lots of ideas for future printing projects thanks to Ria.
My partner and I spent a day learning to screen print with Ria and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were made to feel very welcome and instantly put at ease which made for a fun, creative day. The quality of the teaching was excellent; throughout the day Ria encouraged us to develop our own ideas, offering advice and plenty of tea. Instructions were clear and she provided as much support as needed to build confidence and ensure our prints were successful. I will be recommending this course to friends and family - this is a brilliant day for anyone who fancies giving screen printing a go. Thanks Ria!
I so enjoyed the day screen printing workshop I did with Ria. She is a brilliant teacher and I learnt a lot. Ria went above and beyond to make things work for me.
It was a fun relaxing day and I came away with 2 cushions that I am very pleased with. I have already been recommending her to my friends. It’s a great day out!
We had a very nice day with Ria. The course was well paced and we learned a lot.
The atmosphere was very warm and friendly but we still came out with a finished piece of work at the end of the day.
I took my Mum to Ria's course for her birthday. We had the best day! We really enjoyed learning how to print and Ria was very patient and accommodating of our slightly over ambitious printing ideas! Amongst lots of laughs she managed to guide us to achieve our prints. Also yummy lunch from the cafe . What a fab day!
My friend and I spent the day with Ria learning how to do screen printing. We both had an idea of what design we wanted to print onto a cushion cover and with Ria's relaxed, comprehensive and informative instructions, we also managed to print some additional tote bags. With Ria's enthusiasm and inspiration, we have now discovered a passion for a new hobby. We had a fabulous day with her in the studio and thoroughly enjoyed every moment and would recommend to anyone. Parking was easy and the on-site café was well worth a visit. A day out to remember, thank you!
Ria is an excellent teacher, however it didn't feel like I was being taught. She encouraged and supported me and my sister throughout the day. Her constant attention, positivity and interaction never wavered. Ria was very patient and made us feel very welcome. She has inspired me and given me the confidence to try something else creative.
We joined Ria for an introduction to screen printing on Saturday 23 March. Ria was an excellent teacher and showed us new techniques for creating our screen prints. Relaxed, enjoyable day in a lovely colourful workshop. Would definitely recommend giving it a go.
I highly recommend Ria. I asked for a bespoke workshop and had a fantastic time learning exactly what I had hoped to learn. Nothing was too much trouble and I left feeling totally inspired to try screen printing on my own (as well as a cushion for my daughter who was absolutely delighted with it). I can imagine this would also be great fun as a workshop with friends. Definitely a great day.
this is an excellent workshop and a very fun day. Ria is a wonderful teacher, who listens and explains every process with good humour and patience and enables you to produce something that you are proud of.
i am already organising another workshop with Ria.
Her own work is exceptional and inspirational
I spent one wintry day in one of Ria’s taster workshops and had a pretty spectacular time. Ria is a fantastic tutor, very knowledgeable, very good at teaching. I was a tad nervous (having most recently completed a bookmaking workshop elsewhere, but where I was absolutely hopeless, and didn’t want to be again), but Ria put me at ease really quickly, allowing creativity to flow. She was skilled at helping us to translate something from our heads into a screen-printed reality. How do you do that, Ria? She was incredibly generous with her time and never rushed us. I left at the end of the day with beautiful screen-printing. And I do mean beautiful. I just love colour and there was colour aplenty.
I should also mention that there is a fabulous bijoux café on site and no trouble parking. I was rather sorry I didn’t get a chance to look around the rest of the craft centre because it all looked interesting. I am already planning a return visit.
Rai is such a lovely person and a great teacher. I had a top day and learnt so much and I got to take my designs home on a tote bag. She was great at explaining every process and recommend materials/ supplies Ilto buy from. We had lots of fun and I’d definitely go again. Top class, definitely recommend!
