About the Course

Our 2020 inspiring workshop programme at Cowshed Creative is now on OUR website (purple tab above) with full details and info on how to book.

A great opportunity to learn a few basic oil painting techniques working from simple still life subject matter. This course will cover the basics, such as equipment, surface preparation, colour mixing and painting techniques, allowing beginners to gain confidence and the more experienced to refresh their approaches.

Catherine MacDiarmid is a local artist who exhibits nationally, including work in the BP Portrait award for young artists at the National Portrait Gallery in 2001/2. She is an elected member of the Lakes Artists Society and appeared in Sky Portrait Artists of the Year 2014, 2018 and 2019. Last year she had a major retrospective of her work at the Brewery Arts Centre. As well as completing private portrait commissions her work is collected internationally. Catherine works from her home-based studio in Kendal. Her artwork focuses on the human form, exploring expression and movement in both drawing & painting. She is an excellent teacher and inspired many students and artist.

The workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a converted Cumbrian barn on our traditional Lakeland Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley. Make it a special break and stay in one of our luxury camping pods on the farm.

All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
