I MADE IT: Girls with power tools
This one day ‘hands on’ workshop will explore a variety of construction techniques using easily available tools, materials and processes accessible by beginners. Introducing you to a range of hand and power tools this workshop is designed to empower you giving you the confidence to undertake simple DIY tasks in your own home.
We will enable you to design and construct a simple wooden shelf and demonstrate how to put this up in your home. Instruction will be provided to show you how to construct a shelf to your own design and find out how to fix this correctly to different types of walls. This session also includes our top tips such as the best place and type of tools to buy or hire. The afternoon will allow enough time for you to free style and practice the skills you have learned. Beginners are welcome, no previous experience necessary!
You will be introduced to the following techniques and equipment
Techniques: measuring, marking out, cutting, sanding, drilling, screwing, fixing
Equipment: hand saw, jig saw, ruler, tape measure, sand paper, power drill /driver, rawplugs, wire detector, clamps, bandsaw, vice, claw hammer
